When I lived with my parents I used the microwave to reheat food and to heat tea water. Now we have a tea kettle for heating water and I could not live without my toaster oven for reheating plates of food. A frying pan works well for reheating rice dishes. Just add a bit of water and the rice isn't dry from the fridge any longer
Soups get reheated in a pot...
Um... butter gets melted in a teeny tiny pot on the stove.
I can't think of anything else that I used to use the microwave for though... we thaw frozen meat for about 3 hours in the oven with just the light on or in a ziploc bag in warm water in the sink if we need it thawed quickly (otherwise we thaw it in the fridge over several days). I've never used a microwave to thaw meat although I've seen my parents and friends do so.
