unknown animal bite
Early this morning Lucca woke up crying saying something got her. Some kind of animal apparently mistook her for food. She has a couple bite marks on her middle finger, one mark looks pretty clearly like two front teeth and the others look like it was trying to get a grip or something. Her ear has a bigger bite, looks like it might go all the way through, like top teeth and bottom teeth met inside her skin. There was a good bit of blood, enough that it was dripping. We had doors and windows open yesterday and whatever this was brought a piece of a cookie onto the bed and ate it behind a pillow. (We made the bed just before going to sleep, I know for sure none of us left those crumbs). It looks most like a rat but I didn't see or hear the animal, her screaming scared it off before I could get a light on. They do not carry rabies, but I'm wondering if it's ok to take care of this at home. They won't need stitches, I washed the bites but haven't flushed them out. We would have to walk to urgent care to get her seen today. When I googled, most opinion seems to be that puncture wounds on fingers or ears should be seen. I don't want to go to urgent care and I especially don't want to walk all the kids down there, but I also don't want to put my daughter at risk for anything. I am thinking it's ok to wait and watch for signs of infection so long as I keep the bites clean and open. Since I don't know the animal for sure, am I missing something?
