No digital tv necessary. Yes you can stream netflix through your wii using your wireless internet. You may want to browse what's available on netflix before you sign up for the 7.95 per month. We were disappointed in what's available streaming vs on the dvd's.

My 6 year old loves to play the Wii. She's great at the bowling, tennis and yoga on Wii fit.
