I don't remember whether I already said this upthread or if it was in another thread--but I was able to get an iPhone 4s on eBay to use with Ting for only about $150. The price point really dropped when the 5 came out. Not sure what prices you're seeing on Ting.com for refurbs - but eBay/craigslist might be another place to look. Just have to get a Sprint iPhone with a clean ESN. Ting will even let you run the ESN to double check it before you buy or attempt to activate.
