How did they do it back in the day?
Maybe ill try to use them for just filling with things that don't go bad. But I can't think of much considering their narrow?

I use narrow mouthed for things -- they worked fine
In the old days they had "canning days" and the neighbors all pitched in together - even my grammas generation did it this way --- plenty of people to help with the "young'ins". WHen there weren't neighbors even dad got involved because without that food, they wouldn't make it through the winter
I asked because I can and can't imagine how things got done - so much work
