We love beans in the crockpot. I do up 32-48 oz of dried beans on Fridays, then we use them throughout the next week.
I put the dry beans in the crockpot, add enough water so that it's almost at the top, then dump in chili powder, seasoned salt, minced garlic and onions (we buy onions in bulk and chop and freeze them). I don't soak the beans beforehand.
Throughout the day, I'll add more water as needed, because I love bean water.
I put it on high for 4-6 hours or low for 8-12 hours.
This weekend I also cut up a bunch of Honeycrisp apples. I cored them and got out the bruised areas but didn't peel them. I just broke them into smaller bits, dumped them into the crockpot with enough water to cover them (though next time I will do less water) and left them on low overnight. The next day, I took them out, put them into the blender and viola. Applesauce! The girls love it. Dh wants me to do up the next batch with some cinnamon and sugar.
