I don't think it's weird.
When I was in my 20s and my job transferred me from Chicago to Texas, I ended up buying a futon on sleeping on it for a couple of years.
When we go to my sisters home to visit, one of the 2 sleeping area's we use is a futon.
If she is comfy and happy I don't see it as weird at all. In fact, I think its a great idea. She has a comfy sitting place in the day that turns into a bed at night. :thumbup
