Our favorite bread maker bread is this one:
1 1/2 cup warm water
2 tbsp margarine (or butter)
1 tsp salt
2 cups white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tbsp gluten
2 tbsp brown sugar
1 cup rolled oats
1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
I also made it with 2 cups while wheat and 1 cup white, and in that case I added a tbsp of gluten (1 tbsp per cup of whole wheat). It was more whole wheaty, but still soft and spongy, not brick like and dry like some other recipes I've tried. The oats add a little bit of fluffiness, too. Plus they're good for you.
