Canning and glass top

:sigh

So apparently I can't can with my canner on my stupid ugly glass top stove!

Solutions?

Suggestions?

What about the thing I read that if you put a magnet to it, it has enough steel or something, whatever it is and its safe?

:help

I'm freaking out and ready to cry.

why can't you use your canner on your glass top stove?

I hate trying to make jelly with my glass top. The burner doesn't provide an even heat. It's either on or off. :banghead

I haven't done pressure canning, but boiling water bath canning has worked fine for me.

Do you have an element on your BBQ? I would think that jam in a pot should work, but not the big water bath canner. :think

Our grill has a burner attached to it, that's where I plan to can, if/when I can convince DH to get it set up for me. Honestly, I'm not good at following rules, and would probably try it anyway, except I don't want the heat in my house, so using the grill's stove burner will take the heat OUTSIDE and avoid any concerns about my stove :)

Just buy a freezer and freeze it all :p. canning is so hot. An you could die from some strange bacteria:p

I can on my glass top in my water bath canner. Why doesn't it work?

Its granite ware. It says right in the manual not to. NOt only can I crack the top, but there are concerns over temperature fluctuation and successfully avoiding early spoilage.

No.

And I don't have a pot big enough. I'd have to buy one. Which I don't want to do since I have a perfectly brand new CANNER. Not shouting at you - just general :ph over the situation.

Don't have a barbeque, just a table top grill.

Also, pot is too big for grill. I measured.

Well, hey if you have a few free hundred dollars hanging round..... and then room for all the stuff I'd have to push out of my house to fit a freezer..... :p

What sort of canner do you have though?

ShangriLewis 08-25-2013 06:47 PM

Broken range could equal a freezer though. My niece loves to can and I know she used her mom's range. She would have died if someone had told her that. She loves hers.

We just don't have the space. There is literally nowhere.

That's what I have.

Didn't it come with a warning?

I use my pressure canner on our glass top stove in defiance if the warning :snooty nothing bad has happened...yet :shifty

Is it a pressure canner? Mine's a water bath canner, like amydawn's.

A bunch of Amazon reviewers and answerers have said absolutely no, it cannot be used on a glass top. It doesn't have a flat bottom, and requires very high heat. It will scratch or crack a glass top, and a glass top range cannot guarantee a high enough heat for canning.
