Is pay pal safe?

My therapist wants me to pay her via pay pal. I can't bring myself to set up a pay pal account. . I am leary of signing up anything with my debit card then being on file on the internet. It really makes me uncomfortable. Am I being unreasonable?

I use paypal in my business; I really prefer being paid that way. If I recall correctly, you don't need to set up a Paypal account. But you do have to enter your credit card number just like you do if you make a purchase on Amazon or wherever.

I use paypal all the time for my business too. I've never had a problem with it.

Kathy, So if you enter them once, it doesn't mean they are on there forever (if you decide not to set up an account)?

I've been using Paypal for several years and I've never had trouble.

I prefer PayPay because all my information stays confidential - PP knows it, but no one else does. :yes I like that. :)

Paypal is like a go between for you and who you are paying. So if you authorize them to some amt to a person or business, that's all that will go to them. Paypal takes it from your account that you've linked, or from your credit card, or from your paypal balance, and puts it in their account. The person you're paying doesn't have access to any of your account information, etc. It's almost like writing a check online, except it's more safe because your account number isn't on there! Clear as mud? :giggle

I have been using Paypal for over 10 years. Both as a buyer and a seller. it's VERY secure. They are absolutely legit. as mentioned by Starfox, your personal bank account numbers/credit card numbers are never shared with anybody you are paying. And the site is encrypted and whatnot, Paypal would go out of business fast if they didn't keep the information secure.

Suzi- So if I choose to go the one-time-only route (not deposit money at PP), then, does my debit card information stay on their files?
(yes i'm paranoid here.....i've been taught well)

It will stay linked to your paypal account, but the vendor you're paying will never even have that info. You can unlink the account after you're done paying them if you want too, and then no one will have a record of it.

I don't care if the vendor still has it....I totally trust the vendor. (It's my therapist) (I know you were saying the vendor will not still have it) I was more thinking i didn't want it staying on pay pals records.

So, you mean unlink from PP's website and even THEY will not have it anymore?
