I need an awesome vegan burger recipe
One that my meat-eating kids and dh will like (they can't stand tofu). Any suggestions? There are several yummy veggie burgers I can buy but I want something cheaper than that.

Re: I need an awesome vegan burger recipe
This is my favorite vegan burger recipe:
http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/cu...w_burgers.html Love it! ETA: you can totally leave out the curry powder if necessary, and I've used brown lentils instead of red, too. I also just bake them in the oven. |
Re: I need an awesome vegan burger recipe
Hi I have used 2 recipes for "burgers" that we really liked. they are from the book 100% Vegetarian - eating naturally from your grocery store by Julianne Pickle
Oat Burgers Bring the following to a boil & simmer 3-5 min. 3 c. water 1/4 c soy sauce 3/4 c finely chopped onion 1/2 tsp. salt - opt 3/4 tsp. sweet basil then add the following and stir gently: 1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts or unsalted sunflower seeds *(i use these) 3 c. rolled oats Return to a boil. Remove from heat and allow to stand 5 minutes. Form into burgers while mixture is still hot by using: 1. use a burger press 2. spoon mixture into a canning jar ring on an oiled cookie sheet. press mixture into jar ring with back of spoon. Remove jar ring and repeat. 3. if using your hands, allow mixture to cool - but i have found that the mixture doesn't hold together quite as well. BAKE: 350 for 30 min. on the first side FLIP BURGERS Bake 15 min on the second side. varation - add 1/2 c. celery when you add the onions. serve as a sandwich or with gravy. These can be made successfully made ahead of time and frozen. These burgers are a general favorite. enjoy!! the second recipe is a lentil burger. All the recipes in her book are simple with common ingredients for a family and very yummy. |

Re: I need an awesome vegan burger recipe
I can post my mom's recipe that we're making tonight. ;) And PW's recipe for French fries. :yum
3 cups water 1/4 Bragg's Liquid Aminos or soy sauce 1 TBS beef-like seasoning (or whatever) 1 tsp riced hickory seasoning (optional) 1 tsp Italian seasoning 1 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp salt 3 TBS nutritional yeast flakes 1/4 cup dried onion flakes 3 cups quick oats or 2 cups quick oats and 1 cap bulgur wheat 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans Place all ingredients in saucepan except oats and nuts. Let simmer for about three minutes. Remove from heat and stir in oats and nuts. Allow sufficient cooling to handle and mix up. Form into burger-size patties (use a lid from a canning jar to form, if wanted, or do by hand). Bake at 375 until browned on both sides (usually 20 minutes both sides). Or grill on a griddle. |
Re: I need an awesome vegan burger recipe
I like black bean burgers. the color seems more burger like to me.
I just use whatever we have cooked. Black beans, rice, onion etc. Maybe cilantro or chilis, too. There are a lot of recipes around. I fry them in good olive oil. |
