How do you wash dance leotards etc?

My washer is temperamental on the gentle cycle. Can I just put the leotard and tights in a mesh bag and wash with other stuff?

I wash them with regular clothes no issues.

I tend to treat tights as delicates, but leotards just go in with the normal wash.

I wash both tights and leotards on gentle with other clothes and hang both to dry.

TBPH, it depends on the fabric. Plain flat ( non shiny) ballet leos are completely different from sparkly/shiny leos or other leo. Those could potentially go into a regular load but we never did that :shrug3

When we did dance, they washed their leos on delicate in the washer with woolite or another delicate detergent with tights in a lingerie bag and hung to dry. Or hand washed in a bucket and hung to dry.

I wash their leotards and tights in cold water, dry on low/med with their regular clothes. Sometimes I'll hang to dry but it doesn't really seem to make a difference. The elastic is fine, nothing seems to be stretched out or faded, to the extent that we can hand down leotards if needed. (I have three in ballet - they wear specific uniforms depending on their level. I can't tell the difference between this year's hot pink leotard and the one from three years ago except that this year's Pink Dancer needed a different size.) Tights fade from their original pink, but looking around the studio, that seems pretty inevitable because nobody is wearing "new" pink tights.

My dd's are gymnastics leotards. Regular practice leos are thrown in the regular wash, but hung up to dry. Competition leotards (with bling can cost $300) are washed separately on gentle, inside of tied pillowcase.

Ours need to be washed in gentle in a mesh bag and hung to dry.

I put any delicates in a mesh bag and wash on the "delicate" cycle of my machine.

Gentle cycle in cold water by themselves and hang to dry. My dd is required to have buttercup yellow leos. They pick up other colors from other laundry easily and would fade if I dried them. This is our second year using the same Leo’s.

:ty3 I hadn't heard of the pillowcase method and mesh would potentially pull off the diamonds and sparkles so after reading your post, we just started the pillowcase method with all "blinged" gym leo's. AND I did the same w her competition leo thanks to this thread. :rockon
