I don't think more cal/mag will fix it.

I have been having trouble with my legs at night. I thought it was not enough cal/mag but I took a lot tonight and my legs woke me up after about 20 minutes of sleep. I started to think it was in my head but after tonight, I know it's not. The only way I can describe it is like I'm flexing little tiny muscles all up my legs. I am sitting up to sleep with a bean bag under my knees. And my legs are in somewhat uncomfortable positions during the day (when I'm rocking my baby). So what's going on? I just took a few sips of wine hoping that would help. And The rest of my body sometimes feels that to a smaller degree (like tonight). I'm so tired and I need sleep but I can't stop focusing on my legs.

Quinine is supposed to help with restless legs, but you have to have a prescription for it here.

I find that it's worse when I'm pregnant and when I'm too hot - my feet/legs in particular.

If nothing else helps, and it impairs your life (ie can't sleep at all) I know that here in the UK the drs prescribe Diazepan or another muscle relaxant in severe cases.

Could it be a lack of nutrients? I'm off of a bunch of food and I have a problem with not eating enough.

I'm feeling it again and I had cal/mag, some extra vit. B, and a good meal. Help me here!

try some chamomile tea? Chamomile is a muscle relaxant.

I'll try that tomorrow night. But why is this happening?

It could be a potassium deficiency.

That's interesting. We've been out of bananas but I did have one tonight. Maybe still not enough?

I just googled and iron deficiency came up a lot. That would make sense too. I just took some floridex and ate another banana. I need to sleep. This is driving me crazy! It looks like alcohol can increase symptoms. :doh I drink very very little but I drank 3 sips just to relax me so I wouldn't obsess. Grrrr! I hate this!

:hugheartI have had this same thing for many years now. It is over the top annoying and keeps me from sleeping. I tried the calmag and a homeopathic remedy and neither worked. It seems to be worse during certain parts of the month although it's been awhile since I kept track. I think maybe the second half. It's also worse after extra exercise even extra walking. The only thing I've found that helps it is to have dh rub the backs of my legs really hard and then I can go to sleep.

:popcorn for more ideas.

IF it is a potassium deficiency, try 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar dissolved in a cup of water or juice. It is very high in potassium.

:think Only read the OP so forgive me if I missed anything, but what immediately comes to mind is iron, potassium, and B12. Does it have anything to do with your cycle?

Mine is SO BAD right now, too. It was better after an ENORMOUS mug of cal/mag last night and I bought more bananasd yesterday.

I know it sounds silly, and I realized mine is missing after I changed the sheets, I'm gonna go fix it right now! But, have you tried a bar of plain ivory soap under your sheet, down near your feet? I *swear* that helps.

No ppaf yet.
I'll bulk up on those other things though.
Ivory soap? I don't think I have any. What is in it that helps do you think?

I've never heard of the ivory soap but if you want to try that tonight and don't have Ivory soap I'd just try any old bar of soap and see if it works.

Re: I don't think more cal/mag will fix it.

I did everything I could today:
B12
Iron
2 bananas (no cream of tarter but I'll try that)
cal/mag
Cham tea (it's a mix with other sleepy teas)
no alcohol (not that I do a lot anyway)
I need to sleep. I'm not in bed yet but right now my legs feel tired. I'm tired and dealing with an appt for the baby today and 2 sick kids. :( I'm gonna try to sleep.

A hot shower before bed always helps me, too.

They were quite a bit better last night. It was there a little still but not enough to affect my sleep. :tu Im gonna do the same thing today.

And remember, if you're *deficient in trace minerals, it will take a bit to build the stores back up. Just taking the supp may or may not help immediately.

If you already know you tend to pit your nutritional needs low on the priority list (I do that! :sigh) then it's a wicked good likelihood that it's related :yes

Have you heard of nettle tea infusions? Rich in all those minerals, theyare an excellent way to boost.

Yup I've got lots of nettle tea in my pantry but I haven't been making it as much this past week. I'm going to today though, we have a house full of sickies.
I think my nutrition won't be lacking quite as much next month. We get a csa box every week and I love veggies. I am not going to the store very often right now so we don't have as much fresh stuff.
I need to be more purposeful in my eating.

ITU :yes Totally. I have most of the ingredients to nourish myself...it's just the doing of it that gets postponed :rolleyes

Re: I don't think more cal/mag will fix it.

Yup, I was gonna make tea this morning but everything else got in the way, like changing diapers and feeding the kids. I am determined to make tea today though.
And I've had some vit. B and a banana. I will have another later and take my iron before dinner and cal/mag before bed. So I have a plan. Hopefully I stick to it.

Magnesium Oil may help. You spray it right on your legs and rub in. I use the Life Force brand.
