I need a jello salad
Anyone have any favorites they want to share.
Yes, it is for Thanksgiving, but I'd rather not do cranberry (not a fan;)) or the pretzel one. So what kind of jello salad do you like? |
Re: I need a jello salad
I'm not a huge fan of jello salads.... but I have used this recipe that uses whole cranberry sauce and cherry jello. And everyone in my family seems to like it, including my dh and others who do NOT like cranberries.

Re: I need a jello salad
My mom's traditional one is pineapple jello with celery, apple and walnuts in it. Yum!
I also have a recipe for a cucumber and onion one in lime jello that I can dig up if you're interested. |

Re: I need a jello salad
I've always made it with the pecans. It gives it a nice crunch/saltiness. I'm thinking that it would probably be fine without them, but I do think the pecans give it more flavor.

Sunshine Salad is my favorite! DH's grandma makes it for Thanksgiving.

That's my problem:doh -- I'm not Lutheran... I asked my mom what she wanted me to bring. She said a salad. I said a green salad? She wanted jello. Ugh. Jello salad just doesn't appeal to me that much. It's totally a texture thing. Thanks for all the suggestions so far (except from you Mama Calidad:P~). Keep 'em coming. ---------- Post added at 09:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:10 PM ---------- I'm thinking I'll just do a strawberry jello with strawberries and raspberries. Thanks for all the suggestions! I'd love to try a serving of each (I just don't think I could face making some of the elaborate ones you all do!) |
Re: I need a jello salad
I usually hate jello salad but my mom has this one with cottage cheese and pineapple that our whole family likes.

Re: I need a jello salad
Cottage Cheese Jello Salad
1pkg lime jello 1 C water (note this is only 1 cup instead of the 2 called for on the Jello Package) Dissolve Jello in boiling water and put in fridge until partially set (very thick but not quite solid) 1 C of whipping cream 1/4 cup powdered sugar Whip cream in sugar until cream is stiff 1 C cottage cheese 1 small can of crushed pineapple, very well drained Fold whipped cream, cottage cheese and pineapple into thickened jello. Transfer to intended serving dish. Set overnight. Oh by the way, yes my family is/was Lutheran :giggle |
