ETLDTD - week 4, Thursday-Sunday
From Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline
Week Four ATTITUDE SHIFT: Harnessing the Power of Unity REASON: To focus on connecting instead of trying to be special DISCIPLINE SKILL: Encouragement VALUE: Interdependence *Practice changing your self defeating statements into encouraging ones. Tell yourself at least 3 times a day " I can handle this. I am good enough" Encouragement: Honoring your children so they can honor you I have misplaced my book in our unpacking from vacation... i got the top note from the old thread, but she didin't put the notes regarding encouragement in her posts... could someone please post these for me (the first 2 were on the first thread for this week). thanks! i'll search for my book over the weekend. |
Re: ETLDTD - week 4, Thursday-Sunday
Sorry I just saw this Jennifer....I had sick kids for the last week so not been on much
Encouragement: Honouring your children so they can honour you *Every time your children chooses to obey you, celebrate their choice with encouragement. To offer encouragement, do the following: 1) Start your sentence with your childs name or one of the following phrases: "Look at you", or "You did it!" 2) Describe exactly what you see (or noticed) 3) Add a tag, if desired. Use one of the following: "That was helpful", "Good job", "Good for you" *Encourage your child every time you see her using the following behaviours: kindness, caring, turn-taking, sharing, cooperation, honesty, staying on task, and any other behaviour you value. Do this by describing, not judging. For example: "You held the door open for your mother. That was helpful", or "You worked on your project for two hours. That took determination" *Chronic behaviour problems indicate a significant relationship has been injured For chronic problems, spend additional time with your child to strengthen the relationship - cooperation will follow. As children learn that they contribute to the well-being of others and that they can count on each other to be helpful and caring, interdependence is fostered. They learn it is better to give than to get. |

I just wanted to say that I am still here with you guys. I don't have a book at the moment but amfinding it helpful the way it is presented in these threads. We will be spending lots of time together this week at home. This is a change & I'll get lots of chances to practice, I'm sure.

thank you alysia.
glad you're still with us michelle. i still haven't put my hands on my book. (i'm wondering if i left it at in-law's, but don't think i did. dh and i usually do a good job checking for straggling objects. i will post from the original, but if somebody could add the discipline skill points that would be great! i think probably one thread for the week should be okay... posting is down, so no need to have empty threads! is this okay with your alysia? anyone else? |
