Pay rate for cleaning service?
 

My mother has had a cleaning service for a while now, and she has her favorite person. She wants to hire her directly instead of using the service (so she gets this person every time.) She's asked me what the going rate is, and I really don't have any idea! (I have only used a cleaning service when I was sick for a long time, and that was a long time ago!)

Does anyone know what a good rate is? She's in TX, if pricing is regional.

$15-$30 per hour

One thing she might want to be cautious of - in a lot of businesses, employees sign a non-competition document that prevents them from working independently for any clients of their current workplace for 12 months (or whatever it may be) after either they quit / are terminated OR the client ends their contract.

That may not be the case but if it is, signing it means the worker agreed to pay some hefty monetary compensation to the company for the loss of the client / business. Some people will do it anyway and take their chances but your mum may want to be aware of that if she hasn't talked with her favourite person yet.

She said they got it worked out! I'll mention the non-compete thing to her next time we talk and see what she says about it. That does make sense!

Sounds like you resolved it, but just wanted to say I pay $20 per hour to my cleaning lady.

The going rate should be a little bit less than what she paid to the service. I am thinking about 10% less.

She is actually going to pay more than the service, but she's asked for more things to be cleaned.
