Ground almonds past best before date
I did some baking with ds this afternoon and I've just noticed that the ground almonds we put in are over a year past their best before date :doh Are they likely to be ok or do I have to throw the whole lot out?

Ok. :)
I store them in the freezer but even at room temp, unless they smell funny, I'd use them. :yes |
Re: Ground almonds past best before date
I do the sniff test. If they smell good, I do a taste test. If they are rancid I throw them out. IME, almond meal has a long shelf life.

Thanks! I didn't realise until I'd used them so I can't do a smell test, only taste the muffins (which do smell ok!). It's good to know that they're likely to be fine :)

How did they taste? :giggle

Re: Ground almonds past best before date
When I saw this come up in my user CP I was thinking 'oh no, someone's going to have posted that they're completely toxic, but we've already eaten them!' :jawdrop :phew :giggle
They tasted good - I'd substituted the ground almonds for some flour in a muffin recipe, and they were really moist and yummy :) But I'll probably make sure I use in date ones next time :wink |
