Any Humidifier experts??

Greetings!
My friends always tell me about these home humidifiers, but I know nothing about it. Is there any use of it? Is it safe for a baby? Any recommendations?

First, thanks to everybody for joining this discussion! So the issue was divided into two opposite thoughts that's why I decided to deeper into it ;) I asked all my friend and read dozens of articles about pros and cons of humidifiers for babies..For example, according to the article https://safebabyhealthychild.com/hum...s-safest-uses/ it is said that humidifiers are safe for kids but you should choose the right one. It should be BPA-free and easy to clean cause you have to clean it frequently to avoid mold. Good humidifiers include antimicrobial filters to prevent mold growing. And here https://learn.compactappliance.com/h...-in-nurseries/ is mentioned that the device is even helpful to avoid baby's dry skin!
So after several days of studying the point I've decided to order one. With the help of Eva's Blog http://www.evababygear.com/best-baby-humidifier/ I picked the humidifier safe for kids which indeed helps to ease the illness. Hope, it will help! Have a good one ;)

I think they can be risky. They are very prone to mold.

Do you need one for a specific reason?

We don't have one (though we do have a de-humidifier running at the moment :shifty) but in general I like reading Wirecutter reviews: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-humidifier/

They go into detail about why they chose their top picks, and how important it is to clean and maintain your humidifier regularly.

Yeah, I've always been afraid of them because of mold. They are so hard to keep clean and on top of that, they make the entire room prone to mold.

:yes2

When we were first married I ran a humidifier in our bedroom because I'd been brought up with the idea that a humidifier can help prevent colds. I kept the unit clean but when I took down the window blinds to paint I found lots of mold. All that moisture. :sigh If I had to use a humidifier for a medical reason while sleeping, I'd be sure to run lots of fans during the day to air the room out and check all the nooks and crannies very carefully for mold. And clean the humidifier, itself, every single day.

I used a very basic one years ago (not a lot of parts to clean) when I had the heating stuck on and it got so dry it caused nose bleeds.... so worked then.... but otherwise, I'd worry about it causing dampness.

There are hot as well as cold dehumidifiers.

Here, we are taught damp air is thicker and takes longer to heat than dry air.

I think there better ways to prevent colds, personally. :shrug
