made two vegan dishes tonight

:sigh
I made a mexicanish dish that I found on a site listed as a good vegan recipe for kids - skillet black beans with potatoes and tortillas - modified it a bit - did not have the canned green chilis or corn tortillas and used yellow rather than green bell pepper. Dh ate one helping and then served himself another helping but covered it with shredded cheese and melted it on and said it was better that way. Dd refused to even try it and Ds said it was not good or bad and ate some on Tostito chips. I thought it was ok.
I also made Yellow Rice - it was brown rice with turmeric, cinnamon, apple, raisins, and dried apricot. I liked it. Dh ate his helping but did not want any more. Dd refused to even try it. Ds said it tastes like an old folk's home. We asked him when and why he had been eating an old folk's home. :shrug3

Re: made two vegan dishes tonight

Vegan cooking isn't conventional cooking. It's sorta like gluten free, in a way. Gluten free foods aren't going to taste like "the real thing," but you eat GF long enough and you get used to it. Your palate changes. That's how it is when you're meat free. Eventually, your tastes shift, but it's never the same.

The skillet black beans and potatoes sound yum. I think we'll try that tomorrow. The rice? Eh. I'm not a fan of any savory dish that becomes sweet. To me, rice shouldn't be sweet. It's more an expectation thing.

:hug I'm sorry your family didn't seem to enjoy the new foods.

It's frustrating when your family doesn't appreciate your efforts. :hug
