If I were going to plant tomatoes..
When would I need to start them?
I have a pack of "label GMO" free seeds that i picked up at the HFS. I live in northern California. Should I have started them already? Is it too late? Should I just wait until next year? |
Re: If I were going to plant tomatoes..
Did you get an answer to your question? I would think that you would have a pretty long growing season in Northern California, so maybe it's not too late. Does the pkg say how many days to maturity?

Re: If I were going to plant tomatoes..
No, but that's okay. I did better than that. I bought an heirloom tomato plant at the farmer's market, from a place I trust, so It's in a pot, growing as I type this. :) Which reminds me, I need to go water it. :doh

Re: If I were going to plant tomatoes..
I didn't post when I saw your question because I'm a looooooong way from California in distance and climate. If now is too late for me to be starting tomatoes in zone 2, I would assume it's pretty late for you as well. That said, you can probably garden year-round, so I don't imagine it matters when you plant hot-weather crops (tomatoes were originally tropical plants). It would probably matter more when you're planting cool-weather veggies.
