Why are my green beans catching on fire in the microwave?!
 

Home grown green beans canned by my in-laws. They spark, catch fire and singe in the microwave. :hunh Any theories?

Yes! Your in-laws grow their green beans in nutrient rich soil, and those green beans are chock full of vitamins and minerals. Particularly, minerals. They are incredibly nutritious, and high quality green beans.

Steam them on the stove, and skip the nuking.

What was used to can them?

OT: Somehow when reading the title, I read green beans, and thought: gummy bears (don't ask my why) and I was very confused about why you were putting them in the microwave. :doh

:lol I think they were just canned with a little salt. :shrug3 I agree though - it is a travesty to nuke them. I was just cooking a few is all. :shifty

Just FTR, I've had green beans do that in my microwave, too! You're not crazy! :lol

And I thought green beans were an inferior vegetable when compared with the likes of carrots and peppers! Guess I'll elevate them a bit on my list of good-for-you veggies. :shifty
