We're doing a neighborhood "snowball fight."

I'm sure everyone is famliar with this idea. I've read about neighborhoods doing this for holidays and such, but here's how I have tweaked it to last all winter long.

We're going to put together 2 baskets of winter goodies (hot chocolate mix, homemade cookies, etc.) and leave them on 2 doorsteps with this note and 2 paper snowballs (most of the poem was taken from a "You've Been Elved" idea for Christmas, but I tweaked it to make it snowballs and all winter instead):

You’ve been hit!

The air is cold, the snow might fall...
the winter season is here for all.
Your neighbors are looking for things to do...
in fact, a neighbor brought this to you.
On your front door is where it should hang...
to help ward off winter's icy pangs.
The things that came with coupled note...
are yours to keep, enjoy them both.
The fun begins when friends like you...
will copy this note and make it TWO.
Along with this note, add a snowball...
then on a neighbor, secretly call.
Be sure to add some nice little treats...
like something cute or something sweet.
On your window or door the snowball must sit,
or you might find yourself twice hit.
Please join in the fun, let's really share it...
by spreading some warm winter spirit!!!

Snowball fight Directions:
1. Enjoy your treats!
2. Place your snowball on your front door to show that you’ve already been hit.
3. Now you have 24 hours to make 2 copies of directions, two snowballs, and 2 sets of goodies to share with friends or neighbors.
4. Secretly deliver to 2 friends who haven't been hit.
5. Watch how far this spreads throughout the winter!!

ETA: Sorry, I meant to put this under "Kids and Family Activities." :scratch It can be moved if necessary.

Another ETA that it's done! Zach added to the fun by putting on a Santa hat and reindeer antlers on Megan, and he put one of the dog's leashes around her somehow and went to a neighbor's house. He took another basket around the other side of the block, and I didn't let Megan go on that one. They were very quiet and did at least the first one unseen (he's still out delivering the second one).

I can't wait to see snowballs go up on all the doors in the neighborhood!

OH how fun!!!! We used to do something back home that was similar called "Cookie Tag. I had found the idea in an old old old copy of Family Circle years ago, but I lost the poem for that during one of our moves.

We just got our first snow of the season today...The kids & I are going to have to do this!! :scarf Thanks for sharing!

What fun. I love hearing about your children delivering the snowball baskets! Keep us posted how it spreads through the neighborhood. :popcorn

My children & I are going to do this too. In this area, people aren't particularly "neighborly"--this might be a nice way to encourage people step out and have fun being neighborly. I'm going to try to get a couple of my friends to do this too in their neighborhoods---I may have to trick them into it by "hitting them"! LOL

BTW...what do your snowballs look like? Did you make just 2-dimensional snowballs, or actual paper balls that looked like snowballs?

I think we are going to make paper balls and sprinkle them with glitter. Now to find my recipe for homemade hot cocoa mix.
