Wii's and Streaming Hulu/Crackle/other ?
Dh and I are thinking about getting a Wii for the kids. This will be a Big Deal, because we haven't spent that much on Christmas like, ever. It may even be considered everyone's gift (including dh and I)....so this is really important to us! :)
The kids are 10, 8, and 6yo. We want to get something that includes game(s) that all will enjoy playing. Not sure dd would be able to do Mario Cart but she might surprise me(I had a hard time with it the one time I played a few months ago at my first time playing :shifty:giggle). AND I hear you can stream movies off the internet.(?) Do they all have this streaming movies capability? And how is it done? Does it have to be connected to the computer to do this or is it wireless? We do have wifi in the house.... Where to find the best deal w/o having to fight crazy crowds? Amazon would be awesome as we have some points building up there that would help lower the out of pocket cost...but I get confused with all the different stuff... Oh, and will the Wii work w/o a digital tv? (ours are all old school still...) |

oooh fun!
All my kids play wii ( except baby Gideon ) yep, you can get Netflix for your wii :) we cant wait to get stateside to start using that!!! wii's are popular but not "new" so you probably wont have to fight any big crowds for them. Walmart and Target would have them for sure though at what cost or which is a better deal i dont know :heart |
Re: Wii's and Streaming Hulu/Crackle/other ?
No digital tv necessary. Yes you can stream netflix through your wii using your wireless internet. You may want to browse what's available on netflix before you sign up for the 7.95 per month. We were disappointed in what's available streaming vs on the dvd's.
My 6 year old loves to play the Wii. She's great at the bowling, tennis and yoga on Wii fit. |
Re: Wii's and Streaming Hulu/Crackle/other ?
You don't need a digital TV. It's a ton of fun! Consider getting the Wii Fit board--that adds in even more fun games too. There's a lot games I can't do as an adult that my nephews/nieces can. Part of that is because my spatial senses are bad. :shifty

Not sure we will be doing Netflix...anyone have luck with Hulu or Crackle?
Taking mental notes on the board and the bowling/tennis/yoga. I don't know what my deal was w/not catching on well to Mariocart- I used to rock on super Mario bros! Lol |
Re: Wii's and Streaming Hulu/Crackle/other ?
I don't think it can stream Hulu. Maybe HULU plus, but that's a pay for service.
We use our Xbox to stream Hulu, but even that requires an add on app ($20/year). |

ETA- I misunderstood. You're streaming directly to your Xbox not using a 3rd party software, correct? At any rate I would suggest checking out PlayOn for people wanting to stream Hulu and other web content to their game systems. |
Re: Wii's and Streaming Hulu/Crackle/other ?
We do use PlayOn. We just got a one year last time but are considering the lifetime this time. We're kind of hoping something better comes along. It can be so touchy sometimes.

Steal on Wiis - if you want it, act quickly. Amazon changes their prices frequently. http://bucktownbargains.com/114-wii-...ntent=FaceBook
