How to know if wood is safe to use for kids toys??
 

I finally got a scroll saw. :heart I want to start making stuff on it. Id love it if I can use pallet wood to make things but Ive always been under the impression that wood was havily treated. :think

How can I know which woods are safe? I asked once at home depot which wood was not treated and the staff had no idea what I was talking about and one guy said none of the wood there was treated. Um, yeah....

Safe for kids to play with? Safe for kids who still chew everything to play with. How do I know?

If you go to a wood working shop not home depo they will have untreated wood and should know more about it.

How to tell if your pallets are safe.
If they are marked HT they are heat treated

If they are fumigated with the neurotoxin and carcinogen methyl bromide they are marked with MB

Oh! Ill have to look for a woodworking shop. For some reason it never occurred to me that there might be such a thing. :think

I suppose my granddad's woodworking books aren't up to today's standards, now are they? :bag I was also perusing a woodworking forum in which people were saying if you seal a project with a sealant sold for such a use, you're fine.

Err. I don't know about that. I mean, maybe they are fine with it, but it's going in my baby's mouth and I won't even use regular nail polish on my own hands for that reason.

If you get a solid answer, pass it on?
