Good "shade" veggies for the garden
My garden is pretty small because I don't have a lot of sun (we have lots & lots of trees). And one of my 2 slivers of sun is taken up with raspberry bushes.
But I really want to grow more this year. What veggies do well in the shade? TIA! |
Re: Good "shade" veggies for the garden
How much shade? Is it full shade and gets zero sun? Lettuce & some herbs (like parsley & chives) did well in my shady spots last year. In fact, my Italian parsley & chives continued to grow throughout the winter.

Re: Good "shade" veggies for the garden
I only get half a days worth of sun in my two garden spots. One gets morning sun. The other gets afternoon sun. I've had good luck with lettuce and greens in both spots. :yes Potatoes have done well in them as well. I don't get as full of a yield as I would with full sun but I have easily gotten 5 lbs from my three little containers of potatoes. My onions have done alright too.

Full shade to very partial sun - but not as long as half day. In fact, one of my two "sunny" spots is actually only half day sun.
If lettuce will work - will spinach as well? Thanks for the suggestions. Ill probably give 2 or 3 of them a go. |

I'd try spinach, too. My bush zucchini also did well in partial morning sun. Oh, and my sugar snap peas did great in the shade, too!
