Re: Summer Canning and Food Preservation 2018
We picked 17 pounds of blueberries today. I was just going to freeze them but dd13 asked if we could make jam. We'll do that tomorrow. :yum It will be a fun project for us while the older 2 are at overnight camp all week.
My apple & pear trees are full of fruit, but it's not growing. I'm thinking they need to be watered and I hope I'm not too late. :nails I'm looking forward to having enough to make apple sauce & apple butter. We have bosc pears, which aren't my favorite. I can them since they hold their shape well and the cooking softens them up a bit. |

This isn't very exciting but there was a big sale on bananas today and I bought LOTS. I threw out my receipt so I don't know how many pounds but it's kinda crazy. I'm peeling and freezing them now. So we're set for:
smoothies banana ice "cream" banana muffins :yum |

I got a big box of peaches through a gleaner's group and I made low-sugar peach jam. Omgosh I couldn't stop licking the pan. I've never liked peach jam and, after reading traditional recipes, now I know why! 5 cups of fruit and 6 cups of sugar! :wow
I had 10 cups of peeled, pitted, slightly mashed peaches and I used 1 cup of sugar. One. It was amazing. I made a triple batch of peach crisp with the rest. :yum Hoping to get another box next month. |
