How long can a child go without peeing?
I know, a totally obscure question depending on a lot of varibles, but my 32-pound 3yo daughter has peed once in the last 24 hours (a small amount). I took her to the doctor today, because I do believe she has a UTI/kidney infection (temp of 102.8 and pain when urinating), but she wasn't able to pee in a cup at the doctors office or here at home. She is not drinking a whole lot of fluids (no matter how hard I try) but she has had at least 30-40 oz in the course of the last 8 hours or so. The doctor didn't seemed too concerned about her peeing so little, but I can't imagine not going pee every few hours? Am I being a worry wort? Thoughts, suggestions... :shrug

Hmmm, is she holding it because it hurts? :think

Does she show any other signs of dehydration- sunken eyes, taught skin...
maybe askdrsears.com has some more info on peeing/dehydration. |
Re: How long can a child go without peeing?
She really doesn't have any signs of dehydration, and even though she isn't drinking much, she is drinking enough that I would think should make her need to go pee more than once in 24 hours. I have been trying to find something out looking on the internet, and having trouble finding any info I need.

My daughter often only goes once or twice in a day. She has a bladder of steel.

When I was little I was catheterized and was scared pee afterward. I think I remember not going for almost 2 days.
