Storing old toys

What do you use to store outgrown toys that you want to save? Old clothes is easy but toys take up more space. Just big Rubbermaid boxes? Labeled anyhow? Ds is old enough that he has outgrown baby toys but I have to figure out a way to store them.

I just stored them and the baby books in an apple box labeled "baby toys" but my kids don't have a whole lot of toys so I didn't have anything giant- just little rattles and things like that.

Thanks. What do you do with toys as they get older and toys get bigger?

Re: Storing old toys

Well all of our well-loved big toys are still being used. For example we have the vintage Fisher Price Little People castle and a newer Little People farm that are still played with. We have some sold some things (like a few dollhouses) that didn't get much play. So I don't have any bigger toys in storage. If I did I guess I would just get a big Rubbermaid bin but I would only store big toys that were absolutely loved. I try to keep the toy collection minimal and only the very best gets saved.

If it's really large you can put it in a drawstring trash bag to keep dust off of it. My kids were pretty close together so I never had to store anything long-term, just toy rotation.

We stored ours in clear sealable crates and our boys are 17 and almost 15 and the baby clothes are still looking good :)
