I just get so tired of this! (vent)

I am not a tidy person, but I am organized, if that makes sense. Things go where they go, and there is a reason why they go there. So the swimming bag stuff might sit out in the corner of the room for a week after we've been swimming, but then it gets put away in its right spot.

And it just drive me crazy when people put things in their wrong spots! :ph I try to be appreciative that someone is helping me, I really try. But it drives me beserk. We have a cleaning lady who comes every 2 weeks, and dh helps out sometimes, and IDK how between the two of them they can lose so much stuff! I have no socks, and finally find a bunch in my son's drawer. (HOW do you mix that up? Really? He's only 3, our feet are not the same size!) My cooking pans will be put in wherever there is room and I spent minutes in the middle of dinner opening every cupboard trying to find something, when EVERY pan has it's proper spot. Today I got so frustrated I almost cried trying to get my son's lunch together. I bought some of those metal lunch containers so I didn't have to pack his lunch in plastic, because I figured that I pack his lunch so often it would be worth it even though they are REALLY EXPENSIVE. There's a little metal cup with a plastic lid that disappeared. Well, it turned out someone had put it in with the metal measuring cups. And the lid? I have no idea. None. It is not with the other tupperware lids or the other kid containers. Either it follows the same logic as the measuring cup thing, which I cannot follow, or it is gone forever and my new expensive cup is worthless already!

As I said, I try to be appreciative. But I wish if someone didn't know where something goes, they just didn't put it away. :crazy

And my dh especially is a "it's clean when it's out of sight" kind of guy, so he just puts stuff away ALL THE TIME.

:hissyfit

I could have written your post! Any solution in site? My DH wants me to label everything!

Your cleaning lady puts stuff away? :scratch I never do that. If it's out, I leave it out and clean under it unless I'm specifically directed to put it somewhere.

IDK what to tell you about your dh. My solution would be to label everything too. ;)

Re: I just get so tired of this! (vent)

When I was pg, I went through a phase where it made me especially panicked to see the little pots in the middle where the medium sized pots go and so forth, and I suggested getting a labeller and putting labels for everything in the house where it goes. Dh was like :hunh and thought that would be way over the top. So I've thought about it since but not brought it up. Maybe its time.

Mary, that would be fine with me. We have hired here for extra time to do the laundry, which I thought was pretty self explanatory where it goes, and I guess most of the mistakes were at the beginning. But yes, I would be fine with things folded and left out neatly. But I don't know at what point I start sounding picky and micro manage y. :-/

DH does that to me sometimes. I'm like...dude, YOU live here. You got it out and you can't remember where to put it back ? :mutter

Exactly! This cup was something fairly new,but he'll put away things we've had forever in totally the wrong spot. Maybe the wrong room.

I wonder if you could email the cup's company and ask about buying a replacement lid?

My husband "cleans" up by making stack. Stacks of things that are unrelated and not at all where they belong. But it looks better :mad

I think a label maker afternoon would be great for you guys. Perhaps not for every single thing but for the stuff that's your domain and really matters (kitchen! clothing!) I'd do it.

I soo get this. DH loves to help clean the kitchen up, because then he can listen to sermon podcasts that he otherwise doesn't get a chance to do. Great! Less work for me.

Except... I have the entire kitchen organized so I know where every single thing is, but he always puts stuff just in whatever cupboard or drawer seems to have room at the moment. I am constantly in the middle of cooking something, trying to grab a certain utensil or pan, and screaming out, "I can't find X. Where did you put it!! HELP!! This food is burning!!!! Find it NOW!" Or I can't even start making something until he gets home, because I look through every single spot and still can't find it... only to have him come home, look everywhere, then a week later he remembers he put it in the entry way closet or in the dining room cabinets instead. WHY???

Sorry I am not very helpful in offering solutions. The best I got is, "if you want it done right, do it yourself." So if I don't feel like doing it myself, I can't complain :( (But I still do ;) )

Can she fold laundry and put it in baskets for each person?

I'm so picky about laundry, I'd never be happy with the way anyone else folds it. I re-fold after my only right-handed child does it because she folds backwards. :shifty

:hugheart for a house keeper it doesn't matter how you sound :no, you're paying for help not to make your life more complicated. :yes That solution won't work as well for your dh. :lol

I can SO relate. It took me two weeks of wearing socks I didn't like to finally figure out that my socks were in my DSs drawer after MIL "helped" while Ayla was in the hospital. She folds everything that needs to be hung, and she folds it where the crease is down the center of a shirt. Drives me batty. I told J I didn't want her coming under the guise of helping. Visits - fine. Helping? NO! :)

That's a good idea! (If Housekat's doesn't work!)

Yes! Mine puts them in paper grocery bags and then puts the bag in a little used room, like the garage. I have found highly needed things like library books and ds's rainpants (we live in a rainy climate and he goes outside every day) in the garage MONTHS later after HOURS of looking, randomly, just because I happen to be clearing out. This is NOT cleaning to me.

Thank you! I feel empowered and less ridiculous now.

I'm not particularly picky. I don't care how things are folded as long as they are. I don't even mind moving the pajama shirts from the shirt drawer to the pj drawer, because I understand how similar they can be. I don't mind HOW things get done if they ARE getting done. But putting things where they can't be found does NOT qualify as done for me!

:ty
I think probably most of it is dh; the housekeeper is only here twice a month. And he hates constructive critisism of any kind. :sigh

Re: I just get so tired of this! (vent)

I have a serious love affair going on with my label maker....:giggle

While I don't label kitchen cabinets, or anything that can be seen by company, I go nuts in areas of the house that only "we" see.

We've got a set of two drawers at the top of the stairs to the second floor. Both drawers are labeled. One is for school uniforms that DS1 currently fits into, and the other is for hand-me-down uniforms that will eventually either fit him, DS2 or DD. We have cabinets and shelves in the boys' bathroom upstairs that are meticulously labeled. They have labels such as baseball socks and pants, soccer shin guards, humidifiers, air conditioners (we have window units in the upstairs- our house is 140 years old!), toilet paper, boys' winter outdoor clothing (hats, snow pants, etc), "regular" hand-me-downs (not uniforms!), etc.

Same thing with shelves in the basement. Party supplies, canning supplies, craft stuff- it's all labeled. It seems ridiculous to have such specific labels on everything, but it saves us from every spring/baseball season/fall/cold and flu season from wondering where on EARTH the air conditioners/baseball socks/4th of July decorations/humidifiers are!
