I thought your comments were definitely helpful! I hope she is able to come and check out the gentle discipline forum at some point. I wasn't even raised very punitively and it has changed my entire paradigm. I can't even imagine living through what she and so many other ATI women have. :sick

I find myself thinking about her throughout my day all the time now and saying a prayer for her. :pray4

She posted a new entry about depression and her father tonight.

I also checked out her writings at nolongerquivering . She talked about being locked in a closet for 14 hours when she was 5.

Bless her heart.

As informative as her blog is I truly hope she only continues it as long as it is beneficial and healthy for her. I want so much for her to have a chance to truly heal and I hope her father's vile attitude and the drama he is causing doesn't distract from that. :(

Praying He will come along side her. :pray4

In a way, I think her father coming on and being vile is a help to her because of the comments to her blog. Her father is using the same rhetoric, threats, and emotional blackmail he has used all his life. When she was a child, she may have instinctually known that what he was doing was fundamentally wrong but it was her world. Now he spews hate and vile words but almost immediately all of the comments denounce him quickly. Now Ruth has hundreds of people saying, this man is nasty, evil, and insane. She has validation. I can see where this would be very helpful, especially for a time,

Wow. :sick
That poor girl...she has been so brave.

My parents walked knee-deep in that stuff for years.
Its been 14 years since I was at one of Gothards seminars, yet they stubbornly stick with me.
My parents were not quiverfull. I actually never even heard of that till I was married.

I agree. Her blog is a safe way for her to engage (face) the crazy, on her terms, and work through her thoughts, feelings, and responses. The comments really help give her outside (objective) perspective - even the comments that "pity" or "blast" her dad.

I am amazed at the level of insult his posts include - all contained in the pious Gothardite phrasing. Even his last entry on her post about depression. :jawdrop In one fell swoop, he told her that she was worthless, wanton, lazy, and an embarrassment. If he actually came right out and said that - the abuse would be so clear - even to the most "christian" person. But since it's wrapped up in "pious" talk, it is so much harder to discover.

I read some of it today, I'm glad that she's out of it now. I pray that God heals her quickly!
