Pics of the RAW recipes I made **NEW** pic added!!!! (pg 3) You have to see it!

In order of deliciousness, with the best one last:

"sour cream 'n onion" flax seed crackers:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...g?t=1178166694

chocolate oatmeal raisin cookies:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...g?t=1178166706

and the absolute BEST thing I have ever tasted in my LIFE...
coconut-rolled brownie balls
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...g?t=1178166734

ETA: recipes!!!!
I suppose I could post the recipes. ;) I got them online, I really can't remember where, and then I tweaked them, so they aren't the originals anymore. Here ya go;;;

Flax crackers:
a bunch of flax seeds, however many you want or have on hand (um, how about 1 cup?) add equal parts water, let soak 5 hours or overnight. add sundried tomatoes, or onions and whatever spices you want. spread very thinly on cookie sheet (or dehydrator sheet) and dehydrate until crispy. If using oven, set it on lowest setting and leave the oven door ajar. some suggested flavors are: dehydrated or fresh onion, basil and italian spices, a dash of lemon juice (lime is actually better) for "sour cream & onion", sundried tomatoes and chili spices (chili flavored crackers) or sundried tomatoes and pizza spices (pizza crackers), or sundried tomatoes and other minced veggies (garden veggie flavor) and whatever else you want. Add a squirt of Braggs aminos too, that gives a little more flavor. Be creative, cater to your own personal tastes. Oh, I also added a handful of sesame seeds becasue I had them right there.

chocolate oatmeal peanut butter raisin cookies (the equivalent of raw no-bakes):
2 cups oats
1 cup raisins
1 cup peanut butter (I used cashew butter & they were fine)
1 cup maple syrup (I used honey and it was fine) mixed with 1/2 cup cocoa or carob powder
dash of vanilla if desired (I omitted this)
Mix all ingredients, shape into cookies and enjoy!

coconut-rolled brownie balls:
put a bunch of dates in the food processor until they turn to paste. measure how much paste you have and add the same amounts of nut butter (any kind) and cocoa or carob powder, add a Tbsp of honey (more if you want it sweeter) mix throroughly. I had to do it by hand because my food processor started smoking. :shifty Roll into balls. roll in coconut or chopped nuts if desired. Add a walnut, pecan or almond for garnish if desired. Refrigerate them, if they make it that far without being eaten. ;)

Oh my, I just bought dates yesterday and was looking for something to make with them. You think I could use a different sweetner than honey? I'm out. Maybe maple syrup? :think

:yum
I will be busy today!

poleidopy 05-03-2007 05:28 AM

Re: Pics of the 3 RAW recipes I made this past week. (And they were SOO delicious!)

Maple syrup would IMO most definitely work. Dates are already sweet, the recipe just needs that little extra boost to make it perfect. I swear, it's like eating raw brownie dough or something. SOOOO delicious! And the coconut makes it extra yummy. :yum When I made them, I asn't feeling well, so i didn't eat any. Then when DH got home he asked how they tasted and I said I didn't know, so I ate one. Man...it's a good thing I hadn't eaten one earlier in the day or they'd ALL have been gone. I had to pack some up to send to a friend so I wouldn't eat them all! (I still ended up eating too many for a midnight snack... :shifty )

I really want to try out those flax crackers but I don't have sundried tomatoes. :think

:yum :yum :yum

I just made the date cookie things. Yummy! Very rich though - I could only eat one. DH liked them too, but he said they looked like cat poo. :rolleyes (They weren't as round and pretty as your pic - and I rolled them in ground flax cuz I didn't have coconut)

I have flax seeds soaking right now- about how long will it take in the oven?

poleidopy 05-03-2007 03:36 PM

Re: Pics of the 3 RAW recipes I made this past week. (And they were SOO delicious!)

well, if you aren't bothered by them not being really "raw' you can close the oven door or turn the heat up a *little* and just keep an eye on them. You could probably make them dry in like, 45 minuted then. :think

You don't HAVE to use sundried tomatoes. I hate tomatoes and never use them . :shifty :sick

Re: Pics of the 3 RAW recipes I made this past week. (And they were SOO delicious!)

Well I have the oven door closed and it's going on 3 hours right now. But I think I made them a little thick - I used my biggest pan and filled it. A cup is a lot!

I'll let you know when they're done. :yum

I make them so thin you can see through them, pretty much. :shifty Let me know how they turn out. Maybe i'll try thick ones next time.

Think they'll finish if I take them out? My granola didn't get really cruchy until I took it out of the oven and it cooled.
:shrug

I don't know...mine were always crunchy when I took them out. :shrug if you take them out & they still aren't crunchy you can always stick them back in.

thomer 05-03-2007 05:15 PM

Re: Pics of the 3 RAW recipes I made this past week. (And they were SOO delicious!)

Well I took them out and let them cool. They were crunchy on top and soft on the bottom. The thinner parts were glued to the pan :doh The thicker parts I pried up and turned over and stuck back in the oven.

I tasted some, don't really like them. :/ Maybe I didn't put enough spice in. :shrug Oh well, maybe DH will like them.

yeah, you really have to add a lot of spices so they don't taste so, well....like seeds. :shifty

yeah, if they're relly thick, you can eat them with salsa or guacamole or anything. Sorry they didn't turn out that good. :/

The crackers turned out nicely and were a hit! I put a little vinegar, dill and sea salt..and they taste like dill pickle chips. :giggle

Kawani, thank you soooo much for the coconut ball recipe. They're helping me kick my chocolate habit and sooo yummy. :yum :heart :heart

No problem! I'm keeping my eyes open for more great recipes. I was really sad when I came home & there wee no cookies left. I have no other chocolate in the house! Argh!!!!

Re: Pics of the 3 RAW recipes I made this past week. (And they were SOO delicious!)

I made the chocolate/coconut thingies. Yum! I rolled mine into balls and then rolled 1/2 of them into coconut and left the other 1/2 plain. I called them Moosetracks and Moosetracks in the snow :giggle

ETA---O.k. THIS is big. Dh who does not partake in my culinary whims actually had one and made positive comments about it! He's diabetic so he has to be careful because dates are full of sugar, but he really enjoyed it. It appeared to me that he would have eaten more if it weren't for the sugar factor. I think I will use less nut butter and more cocoa powder next time or I may buy some cacao and try that.

I DO think it would work with sunflower seeds, preferably soaked first.

I don't know. i've yet to use sunflower seeds in any way other than throwing them whole into things. :shrug

In addition to Annie Phyo's donut holes (no pic yet) DS & i made some raw sushi (I know sushi is normally raw, but I mean all vegan & raw, and the nori was raw too) it was so amazingly delicious. It's going to become a staple in out household. It was quick, easy to make, cheap and SOOOOOOOO good! DS & I sat on the floor stuffing our mouths full. Oh man, I wish you could've had some! :mrgreen :yum Here's the pic...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...g?t=1179028557

There was no rice in it, and I didn't miss it at all. It was better than any other sushi I have ever had in my entire life. We put carrot, cucumber, mung bean sprouts & avocado in it & dipped it in Braggs aminos. ( I could've made a dip/dressing to dip it in, but I was lazy and the Bragg's was so good!!!)

not as neat as yours, i don't think! we used cucumber, some smashed avocado, jicama, green onion, red pepper, and the most deeelicious marinated portibello mushrooms EVER. yum. when i was totally raw (for a short time :blush ) i think i ate those marinated mushrooms and onions almost daily. :blush it was the closest thing i thought tasted like cooked food! :lol

Thanks for posting the pics ladies! I made some raw sushi the other day and they were almost exactly like poleidopi's. For my dipping sauce I used Braggs with a tiny bit of ground ginger and garlic powder as well as a drop of agave nectar. So easy. So yummy. MMMMMMMMM!

Oh those both look sooo yummy! MMM! I tried sushi for the first time in the fall and couldn't stand it :shifty :giggle but I bet those are really tasty! And so cute too- I want to make some myself and I'm not even raw :yum
