Sudden insomnia... 12 hours of sleep in 5 days [emoji30]

Help! I've always slept good (well, aside from normal child wakings) but all of a sudden Friday night i slept for two hours (from 11pm-1am) and every night since then slept around the same about 3 ish hours a night. My body can no longer function in normal ways, my heart is racing, I can't think. By evening I am ready to destroy everything in my path and I collapse in exhaustion at bedtime only to wake up a couple hours later :doh
I've haven't taken melatonin in nearly 20 years and I tried it before bed last night, I still woke up, so I took more and I still laid awake for hours and hours, this time though my body felt like cement and my mind wasn't buzzing, still no sleep

What On earth is wrong?
What other natural things will help? I tried rescue remedy sleep and that was even less effective.

That sounds like agony! Stress is the number one cause for me, second being hormones during my cycle. I neeeeeed sleep routine or else it takes time to recover.

Recently I have found a sleep mask to have more benefits than I thought it could for me. A sleep cycle for me lasts about 1 1/2 - 2 hours, when I roll over my eyes open and I am fully awake before going to sleep. I have found using the sleep mask even in the dark has greatly reduced my waking and speeded up my falling back to sleep by not allowing me any visual stimulus.

I tend to put it on during my first waking... but I have found on days I have insomnia from the get go (normally I may lay awake until 1am), putting the sleep mask on has me asleep in an hour or less, once I think to put it on, which shaves about 1 1/2 hours off my awake time. I have built up to this though over a few months with my sleep mask.

I also use white noise, the fan, I like the sound and I find air on my face soothing.

Do you have the option to sleep alone in a room?

Do you use cal/mag? Doesn't help me but helps some people.

Right now, because you are desperate, can you make arrangements to nap or sleep at whatever time you feel the greatest need rather than waiting on bedtime? Being so tired sleep is better then sleep at the right time only.

I have a lot of insomnia. :( Hormones are a huge part of mine, plus stress like May Sunflowers said, and anxiety. I take cal/mag every night as well as 1-2 sprays of my magnesium spray. On the nights I *have* to sleep (bc I work the next day) I add in melatonin. Sometimes, though, none of that works and I end up laying there for hours. :(

The best thing I use is the magnesium spray though. That stuff is awesome!

For racing thoughts, Rescue Remedy (not the sleep, just RR)is wonderful for me as well.

Lots of hugs and prayers. When I get on an insomnia roll, it pretty much consumes me. It's all I think about, I fret about whether I'll be able to sleep, etc. I pray you get the most restful and wonderful sleep tonight!

I would also cut out all caffeine. It has a long halflife.

Are you any better? If not, do you have other symptoms? Bulging eyes? Weight loss? I ask because hitting so rapidly it could possibly be hyper thyroid. :hugheart :pray4

I'd not other symptoms I agree could be anxiety. Great advice above. You can also try frankincense or lavender on your bedding or in a diffuser.

I had another thought overnight. Have you had issues with anemia? Insomnia can be a symptom for that too.

That reminds me low iron can also be the cause. My dd has this when her iron is low

If it persists it would be a good idea to talk to your physician about it. He/she can do blood work and test for what the cause really is. Better to know what the cause is than to try to guess at remedies. I hear that you want to treat it naturally, but it could indicate something that really needs a doctor's attention.

Re: Sudden insomnia... 12 hours of sleep in 5 days [emoji30]

I woke up again at 12, but immediately took another dissolvable melatonin, i slept again until 2, and then dozed lightly from 5-7... so progress!! :yay

I have had issues with my thyroid in the past but never hyper, I have been losing weight though :think
I'm also very stressed and very depressed about some life situations so I think it might all be related
Thanks all [emoji175]
