Ergo owners
I'm about to order a new Ergo. Do I really need to buy the infant insert for my 2 month old?

Re: Ergo owners
I did. He wasn't quite big enough to spread his legs. There is a way you can frog them in there, but I was too afraid he'd wiggle out.

Re: Ergo owners
I used a blanket to sit him up taller. I folded it about eight times to make it a wide base. I have the infant insert too. I would try with a blanket first. :)

Re: Ergo owners
If you have another carrier that works well for infants- a wrap or ring sling- I wouldn't. I think I started using the Ergo, no insert, at about 4 months. So it's really not worth it for the time you'll be using it.

Re: Ergo owners
I wouldn't buy it for the short time you would need it. I was able to use the Ergo without insert at about 3 months with DS with alternate positioning.

Re: Ergo owners
I never used it and started wearing G at about 3 weeks. Even people who love them rarely use them for longer than 3 months, so I'd say at this point you can definitely make do without it.

Re: Ergo owners
I used the Ergo with a 2 month old without the infant insert.

Re: Ergo owners
I would definitely not purchase it! Use a towel/blanket, or just wait a bit longer to use it.

Re: Ergo owners
I got the infant insert but didn't like it (though I love, love, love my ergo.) I agree that a rolled-up blanket would probably work just as well for the short time you'll need it. In my case DD was able to use the ergo without the insert about 3 weeks after it arrived. Waste of my money.

Re: Ergo owners
I did not buy it. Just used a sling or Mai Tei til baby was about 4 mo. Now I know I could have put her in a bit sooner with her legs folded in.

Re: Ergo owners
My infant insert was a PAIN to use and really, really hot. I just wore my littlest from birth on without the insert. So I vote no. :)

Re: Ergo owners
I got my Ergo when my son was 3 1/2 months. We didn't get the insert and didn't seem to need it.

Re: Ergo owners
Nope. I wore Raindrop without it from birth. I would just roll a blanket up in the bottom and would swaddle her. We never had a problem.

Re: Ergo owners
i didn't and used my ergo from birth. just froggied her legs in it, and snuggled her down to the bottom of it, keeping her face free (long babies :giggle), or stuffed a blanket around her as needed to keep her positioned.

Re: Ergo owners
Probably also depends on the size of your baby. Simon was the size of a four month old at 2 months. Seth was the size of a brand new newborn.
