Love this quote from the Heart of Learning

" If we believe that we are directly responsible for creating the child's nature in everything we do, and that the child has no unique characteristics other than those we mold in him, our general approach will be that of trying to control every aspect of the child's development, in an effort to bring out the individual qualities we believe he or she should have. But if we accept that the child is already a complete being who comes to us at birth with unique inherent attributes, then our attitude becomes one of respect for the child's uniqueness, and sensitivity to his or her needs' and we have a desire to create opportunitites for the child to manifest those innate qualities."
