Re: Homeopathy Poll & Support Thread

Homeopathic books I've found helpful: It's not specifically a homeopathic book, but I love Smart Medicine for a Healthier Child. It lists all sorts of ailments & lists treatments ranging from Western medicine to homeopathy. I skip straight to the homeopathy recommendation. It applies to the whole family.

Combination remedies that have worked in my family: Hyland's teething tablets are probably the only combo remedy I use . . .

Conditions/illnesses that have been successfully treated via homeopathy (classical or combination): I was raised with an ND as my doctor, so I really don't remember. Oh, how I loved when the doctor gave my mom a glass bottle with a cork full of that wonderful candy medicine. :giggle One of the doctors lived a mile past us & would often stop by on his way home instead of making us come in. How cool is that? :heart Now I'm totally off track. :O

Um, pretty much anything that DS (2.5 yo) gets, I turn to homeopathy. For me, it got my cycle to return after a 2-yr absence while marathon training. The return took less than 2 weeks. My constitutional remedy helped my eczema. Overall, I'm really healthy, but it's what I rely on at the first sign of anything. Without a doubt, Oscillium (sp?) allowed DH & I to avoid the flu last year. My doctor has also given me my constitutional remedy throughout both pregnancies.

Share your personal experience w/ a classical homeopath: She's the family's primary doctor. I love that she knows us inside & out (literally -- she delivered DS & will deliver my next one in a couple months.) I don't know how my ND's credentials differ with those elsewhere, but she's able to write prescriptions, so that's nice to have as a last resort . . . not that it's been needed. Since she knows us so well, I've had situations arise when we've done a phone consultation & she's mailed the appropriate remedy to me, saving me a trip. She also makes custom tinctures.

How homeopathy has affected your perspective on health & healthcare: While I am usually the first one to recommend seeing a professional instead of self-treating (esp. for newbies & critics,) I feel empowered that I have access to safe & effective treatments for my family. I love the peace that I feel at 1 am when DS is having an issue of some sort & I'm able to look it up in my book, find the suggested remedy in my cupboard & fall back asleep with confidence that I've done the right thing. (Especially if I end up calling the doctor & getting a pat on the back because I, I mean the book, :giggle was right.) I appreciate being valued & seen as an equal (for the most part) with my family's healthcare because the education on homeopathy is readily available so I can ask intelligent questions. I appreciate how homeopathy is accepted by other alternative care providers (chiropractors, etc.)

I consider traditional Western medicine to be a last resort with my family's health. I believe it serves an important purpose, and I'm very grateful for the excellent & committed specialists. But I believe every opportunity needs to be given to the body to heal itself first . . . and that's exactly what homeopathy is all about.

L O V I N G this thread! :tu

Well, I am new to homeopathy, so my answers are VERY simple, short and ill experienced as we have not been very ill. I have not been to the Dr. once in at least 3 years (except for OB stuff) for myself, and my son has only been to the ND once. :shrug I think it is BECAUSE of our views on medicine that make it so we do not have to go so much. (ie: treating things naturally, with homeopathy, etc..)

Homeopathic books I've found helpful: I actually do not own a homeopathic book but REALLY want something like this http://www.amazon.com/Homeopathy-Hom...6036748&sr=8-2 Im looking forward to reading the book suggestions in this thread to add to my wish list! We get our homeopathic recommendations from a friend who is studying to be a homeopath and also from a computer my LHFS has in their natural section (where they keep the homeopathic remedies) that when submitting your illness or problem, it gives a long list of possible remedies, including homeopathic remedies. :tu
Combination remedies that have worked in my family: Also the Hyland's Teething Tablets and Calms Forte is all we have used as a combo.
Conditions/illnesses that have been successfully treated via homeopathy (classical or combination): :shrug It's hard to say because I usually am doing other home remedies as well. So not sure WHAT exactly cured it.
Share your personal experience w/ a classical homeopath:
How homeopathy has affected your perspective on health & healthcare: I have to agree a lot with what mommylove posted for this answer. It is nice to be treated as an equal by someone who is working WITH you and your body (in my case a ND). THAT I am not used to and LOVE! It IS nice to know that if something comes up in the middle of the night, *I* can fix it. I have confidence in myself and the remedies to do the job and if it is something beyond me, then I can call the Doc. We also only use Traditional Western Medicine (or Modern Medicine) as a LAST resort for anything in our family, but are VERY grateful they are there for when we need them.

Cannot wait to read more in this thread!!!

I have used homeopathy to treat my family for a dozen years or so. I won't go into all the details but I own a variety of homeopathy books and definitely prefer classical homeopathy but have used combination remedies on occasion. My first go-to book when one of the kids is sick us Ullman's children and infants book. I forget the name and author of the one I use the most but it's not one of the big names. I used to use Castro's book a lot but I found that I have an easier time choosing a remedy when I see them compared side by side for a specific condition and then refer back to a materia medica section for the more general symptom picture. I find that makes it much easier for me to narrow down my search when I can focus on comparing and contrasting the specific nature of the main complaint. I'd LOVE to go to a classical homeopath for constitutional treatment but that is outside of my financial realm of possibility.

Homeopathic books I've found helpful: I can't get to the box where my books are right now :/

Combination remedies that have worked in my family: All of the Native Remedies have been great. I used Focus and Bright Spark to help with DS1 hyperactive issues and his lack of being able to..well...focus.

Conditions/illnesses that have been successfully treated via homeopathy (classical or combination): DDs yeast rash was finally cleared with Lavender and Calendula infused oil I prepared at home. Burt's Bees Eye serum has helped DS1 psoriasis on his gogo and his eye as well as the Kefir. I use nothing but homeopthic remedies for all our ailments, it's so hard to sit here and think about what I have done in the past with excellent results. I think it is all about trial and error. Studying what one herb does and then seeing if you can get the desired results and if not, then find another or a combination of herbs to help heal.

Share your personal experience w/ a classical homeopath: Our family practitioner is a homeopath. She is an MD, but treats as a homeopath, so if need be, she can write an RX which we love because our insurance pays for her 100% She is wise and I feel safe having her as our care provider.

Here I am! :P~

Homeopathic books I've found helpful: My two favorites are Family's Guide to Homeopathy (for looking up remedies) and Everybody's Guide to Homeopathy.

Combination remedies that have worked in my family: I have had lots of luck with combo remedies but mainly just the ones I mix up myself. Typically the ones I've bought OTC don't do much for me. The teething tablets did work for DS as a baby and Homeopathy Works Headache remedy works for some types of headaches. I also have a local tree allergy mix that is made from all the local trees that seems to help with allergies especially when the trees are blooming!

Conditions/illnesses that have been successfully treated via homeopathy (classical or combination):
Right now I'm treating my gall bladder very successfully with a combo of homeopathy and reflexology which has been a huge blessing b/c I have major gall bladder issues in pregnancy. But I have a long list of things I have treated successfully including (but I'm probably forgetting some things): ear infections, fever, headaches, migraines, bug bites, bruises, acid reflux, vomitting, anxiety, menstrual cramps, nerve pain in teeth, & some success with colds although this is harder for us. The only thing I have tried to treat and haven't been able to is the actual flu. I have the nosode for this years strand this time so I'm hoping that will help!

Share your personal experience w/ a classical homeopath: I haven't been to a classical homeopath but I have been to a non-classical one. I had mixed experiences with her. Some things we had great success with and others I felt she was wanted us to take too much. She had our family on about 5 different combo remedies to take 3 x's a day at one point which seemed to defeat the purpose of homeopathy once I started looking into classical. I tend to lean toward classical homeopathy more but there are times when I don't know which remedy is best and I'm in too much pain to go through the trial and error of finding the right one so I mix up all the ones that seem appropriate and they have worked miraculously.

How homeopathy has affected your perspective on health & healthcare: It has drastically changed my perspective b/c I'm realizing now the goal is healing, not to just mask symptoms. And also that symptoms are the body's way of healing itself so they aren't necessarily a bad thing. Its amazing to me how that works too. Like for example my son use to be severely allergic to mosquito bites and I am too (not as bad as he was though). He would get a bite on his cheek and his eyes would swell shut. And there are tons of mosquitos where we live! So I started treating it with homeopathy and if I would catch the bite immediately and give him the remedy right then the bite at first would only swell a little, eventually it didn't swell at all when treated, and now if I don't treat it at all he only has a small swell. So its amazing to see how his body is actually healing in regards to his reaction to mosquitos and now I don't have to panic if he gets a bite on his face and I don't have any remedies with me.

FYI, Chibi*Mum, herbal remedies are not considered homeopathic. :hugheart

Homeopathy defined -- http://www.homeopathicdoctor.com/page8.html

Quote:

Homeopathy is the art and the science of healing the sick by using substances capable of causing the same symptoms, syndromes and conditions when administered to healthy people.
Typically, classical homeopathic remedies have latin names like nux vomica and combinations are both - latin and normal names like "nerve tonic, teething tablets, oscillococcum"

Typically natural remedies can be divided into the following (hopefully I won't miss one)
*nutritional, herbal, homeopathic, flower remedies, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, accupuncture, accupressure, and touch therapies there are tons (chiropractic, many types of massage therapy, cranial something or another I can't remember :giggle) *

I am sure I am missing some because there are definitely more groupings than that :think

We use classical and combination remedies. Have a handful of books we use. . .

BBL -- kiddos need me :)

Re: Homeopathy Poll & Support Thread

Coming back to this - we use mostly classical remedies although I use combinations as well.

I started using homeopathy in 1998 and got a large home remedy kit in preparation for Y2K - I was into herbs at the time and thought homeopathy sounded intriguing ;)

I hate to admit that I tend to turn to nutritional therapy (diet and vitamins) first and tend to forget about homeopathy. I am trying to change that and turn to it as our first line of defense.

I actually would like to go to a classical homeopath and would also like to take some courses in homepathy :grin It's a fascinating field.

What I don't like about homeopathy is that there are 4 or 5 remedies for a running nose LOL. It's why I am doing combination and classical.

Even as I typed this dd1 has a snotty nose and I haven't given her anything :doh. Off to look up her symptoms ;)

Unfortunatley, I didn't like my homeopathy books I owned so they are either decluttered or in the box for decluttering. I tend to use Smart Medicine for a Healther Child and Prescription of natural cures - I love seeing all the types of therapies together because often the homeopathic remedy that matches someones symptoms is one I don't have :doh so I can choose an integrated natural approach :)
