So...soap scum

We have a (homeless) teenager living with us who uses copious amounts of soap products and cleansers, and takes a lot of baths and showers. I've never had soap scum build up to the extent we have now. In the past, a bit of scrubbing would take off the little bit that accumulated. Now, I cannot believe how much builds up, and scubbing does not remove it all.

Any natural cleaning tips for soap scum?

Barekeepera friend or a magic eraser is what I would move to next.

I am certain others ( who do a better job atckeaning than me) will have better answers.

My family bans soap. Only body wash allowed and shower/bath must be squeegeed out every time used.

For soap scum, I break out the nasty stuff. :shifty

For prevention, Method daily shower cleaner seems to keep it at bay.

What have you used with the scrubbing that is not working?

A magic eraser was the best thing I knew of until the other day. I used a (Walmart brand) wet swiffer cloth for floors, and boy did it work fast.

I do find some soaps leave more build up than others. I am paranoid about abrasive scrubs or even magic erasers...i wonder if they leave microabrasions that make it more likely to hold scum and stains :shrug3

I have tried various cleaners...”The Works” seems to cut it quickly...but so caustic!! :shifty

I think i need a power tool of sorts to eliminate all the elbow grease :lol

I tend to assume that all abrasive scrubs and caustic cleaners are leaving some microwabrasions. So I just pick which way I want to get them.

Re: So...soap scum

I use a handful of baking soda, a few drops of cheap shampoo or dishsoap, and a scrub brush...maybe a small amount of water if the wet tub isn't enough to make a paste as it is. The baking soda kind of absorbs the gunk as you scrub, and the detergent in the shampoo or dishsoap kind of cuts through chemically. Oh, our cheap shampoo is for normal-to-oily hair...if you use something moisturizing or strengthening, I'd stick to dishsoap. It's just that shampoo is handy, and there's usually a bottle with barely any left that no one wants to use because it won't come out without diluting, so I use it for this as part of rinsing it to recycle.

Not natural but I use scrubbing bubbles. Works so easy. Spray. Walk away. Come back in about 10 minutes and wipe.
