Giving up a computer in favor or iPhone or tablet?

I’ve been processing this. The only things I use my ancient laptop (that’s dying) is word processing and spreadsheets.

Pros and cons to no more desktop or laptop computer for household purposes? Right now I’m seeing 1 big con... size as I can use google
Docs and sheets for spreadsheets and word processing and if I’m doing a big project borrow a kids computer :think

How often do you do spreadsheets and Word processing? Does the tablet allow you to use Google Docs?

I couldn't do it (when my laptop died, I bought a desktop) but if you don't seem to need it, you could give it a try. You could always buy a Chromebook if you seem to need it down the line.

I do two things on my laptop.
Balance my checkbook and print my weekly wall calendar.

That’s literally it.

But there are the occasional things like

Fixing resumes ( my recent job search and we “just” did ds’ resume ds has 2 resumes now that we just did) we did one for swim and one for food service. But we could’ve easily done on his desktop. I know my word processor for Mac (pages( better than word now but I use word at work so I could easily use his!(

My older two both have computers (a MacBook and a windows desktop) I could use them for resumes)

Frankly my laptop is dying. We don’t have $$ to replace it. We have urgent car repairs on Sha vehicle and house repairs that we were not expecting.

So, can you balance the checkbook and print the calendar from the tablet?

Why not try doing without the laptop for a few weeks and see how it goes?

Yeah. I will have to make a new spreadsheet but I could try. It’s kiterallu dying a slow and pitiful death right now. It’s likely dying within a week or two anyways.

Yeah, you could try Google Docs, if you're not afraid of the Evil Overlord of the Internet holding your financial documents. I think you can just upload your current doc there.

I assume you've already backed everything up?

You can also purchase an external hard drive and use it to connect your laptop's HD to any computer by USB. This is assuming that your hard drive is not what is dying, of course. Backup what you can just in case.

I synchronize my important docs with Google Drive. Yes, the Evil Overlord has my docs and pics. They didn't appear evil when I started this and by the time I wised up, it was too late. Now their AI sorts my photos, which is most convenient, but still creepy.

I couldn't make the full transition. I have a tablet and use it when i want easier mobility but for most things i prefer to be on the laptop. I just prefer a bigger screen and full keyboard. I can type so much easier!

I use a Microsoft Surface ago tablet with a keyboard for work. I use Excel & Word with no discernible difference from a computer. It connects easily to my printer.

I use an iPad/iPhone not a computer for everything else at home.

I can’t see myself ever going back to an actual computer.

It sounds like it is possible for your situation.
I have not been able to because I find it hard to do file management from the tablet/laptop. However, I did replace my last laptop with a very cheap Chromebook which is kind a like a computerized tablet.

Everything is already backed up :yes and I was considering a keyboard for my phone if I do this. Dh isn’t ready to say goodby to our dinosaur iMac soooo he’s going to try to delete several things and fix it :shrug3 I may first take it to the Apple store. I’m akways startled that they’ve helped us keep equipment running half of forever. . Once I am done w the few things I want to email myself to play w now on my phone I’m kinda like “have at it!”

My photos have been on google photos for years. And at this point big brother even knows where I am at work :shrug3 I’m over it unless I get off the grid they know everything about me anyways :giggle

I may just not replace and if it’s not working figure it out from there.
