Why am I so shaky?

So most of yall know it's been really heavy on my heart that I'm supposed to eventually be mostly vegetarian (I'm okay with happy-raised meat very rarely). But God really threw me for a loop when in one week I saw three gross things about different types of meats that made me :sick. So I just have no desire for meat anymore. I've had two servings of meat in the last week and a half I think, which is REALLY good for me. I think I'm pretty well done eating the stuff. :shrug3

But I feel SOOO shaky. I can't figure out why. I'm sure I'm getting enough protein. I'm going really heavy on the milk and eggs. Did anyone else have some kind of meat withdrawals? It may not be related. I've had this before. But I'm wondering if it has to do with the no meat this time.

That happens to me, too. For me, it's iron-related.

I would say it might be blood sugar related. I can help with that. you can post here or pm me. What and how often are you earing on these days? What is exercise and water intake on these days?

Re: Why am I so shaky?

For me it's generally blood sugar and waiting too long between breakfast and lunch. Protein generally fixes it pretty quickly, so I would try to find which vegetarian proteins you really like and have some on hand. It is significantly worse when I am pregnant, like normally I like a piece of cinnamon toast or a muffin with a cup of coffee for breakfast. When I'm pregnant anything sweet for breakfast makes me shaky. So right now I discovered some fake breakfast sausage that tastes almost identical so I've been eating it on a piece of bread/biscuit/english muffin. We do still eat some seafood in our home, but we're down to usually no more than once a week (keeping it in got DH on board the rest of the time, we haven't had any meat products in our home for 2 years now :rockon). The rest of our meals are vegetarian or vegan.

Re: Why am I so shaky?

Well, when I had this problem before it was during our move and I was eating at really irregular times and all junk food. Now I'm on a regular schedule and a bit better food, so I don't know what the deal is.

Breakfast is usually granola with milk. Lunch and dinner vary so much that it's hard to even quantify. :giggle Yesterday I had junk for lunch. :shifty Onion rings and salad. Then supper was migas and squash. Um... I can't really remember before that. But I'm having snacks, too. Popcorn and milk, extra granola, fruit. I had a green smoothie a while ago thinking the sugar would boost me back up, and it didn't at all. I'm having an apple and peanut butter now.

Basically I've been having what the meat eaters are having, but no meat. But I'm adding in cheese or milk or eggs to make up the protein I'm missing.

I have to eat at least every two hours to keep my blood sugar steady. regular sleep is vital for healthy blood sugars, too. i really have learned a lot from some studies done by Neil Barnard who is with PCRM. I am wondering if you fat intake is really high. His studies found that fats can inhibit how well our bodies release and utilize insulin.

Re: Why am I so shaky?

I would say my fat intake is definitely too high. But it was my understanding that fats helped to regulate blood sugar. Like putting coconut oil in your green smoothies is supposed to sort of balance the fruit sugar for diabetics. :scratch

Thanks, Heather!

BTW, peanut butter usually helps when I've had blood sugar issues in the past. It's not helping at all today. I went to bed shaky last night, and I'm still shaky now.

Or maybe I meant absorb:doh

(says the woman who DID no get enough sleep and then had only coffee for breakfast:shifty)

That sounds awful. I do think it is hard to figure out. i think some people are super sensitive. I have to keep my weight pretty low or mine acts up. I think it is easier to balance my blood sugars shor term, if I eat animal products. But, I am not comfortable with the long term issues of eating animal products. Have you read or seen anything by Dr Barnard? My mom made a huge difference in her blood sugars and health by implementing his outlines. The doctor was :jawdrop

I can only stomach smoothies if I have some exercise.

I forgot. Salad is my friend. I can tell a huge difference when I eat salad before lunch and dinner. dinnerplate size salad!

I've never had my blood sugar checked or anything aside from pregnancy. I need to do that. It's really bad now.

Yikes. I am sorry. Do you have a regular doctor? Can you eat a tub of cottage cheese:shifty

walmart has a great brand of monitors that are much cheaper than the others. Well, the strips are.

Re: Why am I so shaky?

We just moved here. I'll try to go see a doc next week. To make it clear, I don't have diabetes that I know of. I've had off and on blood sugar problems since... oh, maybe high school? It's usually pretty easily corrected and I go on. But in the last couple of months I've had two on-going spells like this. The first was from eating junk and irregularly during the move. I got that taken care of and now this. That's why I thought going veg might be causing it. All other things are equal.

Had orange juice. Still shaky. All my usual tricks aren't working. I am definitely calling for a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

For me it needs to be protein to correct the spin. OJ would make it worse with the way mine goes. Try some scrambled eggs, a nice plate of them with some cheese and maybe some toast. Or a salad with a lot of nuts on it, and maybe some feta or blue cheese. Peanut butter only does it for me if it's with something heavier, like making a peanut butter and honey sandwich. In fact most of the time it needs to be heavier, something strong in protein paired with a carb since I'm usually too hungry to begin with.

Re: Why am I so shaky?

Well, for supper last night I had scrambled eggs with cheese and sour cream, and that was when it started, so I don't think it would help right now. I had pb with an apple and a ton of crackers, so there were some carbs. Usually the OJ balances me out long enough to correct the problem.

I really appreciate the suggestions. The kids are whiney and I'm so shaky. It'll probably be meat for supper. I really don't want to have to resort to that every time, so I could use all the help I can get to get this adjusted. Grr... I was so proud of my progress toward vegetarianism. I know that's where God is leading me and I'm so frustrated with this messing me up.
