Wow, that is a beautiful meal, knitlove. :yum

How do y’all cook with toddlers/kids around?
I can only do instant pot or crock pot meals because of her. Or quickly throw a sheet pan in the oven. It’s frustrating to not be able to really COOK sometimes :(

So tonight we are doing white chicken chili with roasted broccoli and fresh blueberries with healthy oatmeal cookies for dessert.

Tuesday night we had taco pie and roasted veggies. Last night was leftovers (burgers/taco pie) because of swimming.

Tonight I am trying this in the IP - https://www.kitchenstewardship.com/s...er-substitute/ Sides to be determined.

I used a baby carrier and put kiddo on my back. They were happy to be with mom & I was able to do what I needed to. I remember doing it with a 6yo on my back one day. :jawdrop

Another option was those booster seats that attach to a table. I hooked it on our long counter across from where I was working. Kiddo could see me and do their own thing and be safely out from underfoot.

I also put mine in carrier on my back.

Normally in a wrap high enough that they could see over my shoulder

My toddler won’t go in a carrier anymore. Sigh.

And we don’t use a booster seat. She sits like a big girl.

I wish those things were options! Thank you for suggesting them.

What kind of carrier do you have? There are some that are designed for bigger kids that she might like better.

The only way I remember having success was to prep dinner after lunch, maybe during nap or tv time, and then spend just a few minutes putting it together in the evenings.

I can do that on days when I’m home but I work every other afternoon at a school :(

So lots of IP and crockpot stuff in my house right now

But there are lots of options out there for ip. Maybe we could revise the pressure cooker section. We will be doing ip 3 days a week all school year because of ballet.

Queso Chicken Bake from the THM cookbook. I think I will just set out raw veggies for a side, plus tortilla chips for the kids.

Tonight is chicken fajitas.

Last night we had roasted potatos & Brussels sprouts and taco meat.

Tomorrow I think will be balsamic shredded roast & mashed potatoes.

I need to menu plan again! Work is so crazy right now and by the time I get to the afternoon I don't even have enough energy to THINK about what's for dinner :shrug

Re: September dinners

I got my week all planed out, we will see if we stick to it.

Saturday I will be at the lady's retreat over lunch I expect dh to take the girls out but wanted to have the option of something easy at home.

Early bird chose the sauage, sourcrout and apple, wiggle worm chose the tacos ( with avocado! This was a quite important matter) and the chicken soup with rice.

This is the first full school week.
Monday is co-op from 9 to 2:15 and then early bird ballet from 5 to 6
Tuesday is the old lady knitting group I take the girls to it runs from 10 to noon. We normally make it for 30 or 40 min starting at 11 [ this week we have a not back to school picknick, noon to 4 we won't make all of it it is 30 min there and maybe an hour back of a drive] and wiggle worm has ballet from 4:30 to 5:30
Wendsday early bird has ballet again from 5 to 6
Thursday I have my knitting group that I am trying to get to from 6 to 9

I hope that we can easily make it through the week but I am looking forward to being not at home on Saturday.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f80a4f9b19.jpg

Re: September dinners

I didn't get to the grocery store today so I have to make a pantry meal - Chili in the IP. We have tortilla chips in the pantry, and I'll probably make some rice to go with it. Tomatoes and cukes from the garden on the side. I just can't concentrate well enough to come up with anything else.

Lady Grey 09-10-2019 08:25 PM

Re: September dinners

I tried a new spinach feta chicken recipe in the IP. It was good but so rich.

heartofjoy 09-10-2019 09:31 PM

Re: September dinners

I made pasta and meatballs (nothing fancy just frozen and canned), but no one ended up being home to eat it, so we will have it again with roasted veggies and salad, maybe Thurs?

Tomorrow I want to have chicken, baked potatoes, and brussel's sprouts.

Virginia 09-11-2019 05:44 AM

Re: September dinners

We are doing orange chicken with sugar snap peas tonight.
Tomorrow will be quiche and yogurt and fruit— something easy since I have a volleyball game.
