Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
also if the waffle iron isn't preheated enough (there should be a little indicator light on it to let you know it's hot enough) the waffles will stick or burn ont he outside but not be done in the middle (BTDT) ALSO It helps to leave the top open for about 30-45 seconds before putting the lid down. I don't know why. But mine always turn out better when I let the bottom get hotter than the top. :shrug3

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
I tried the bean-oat waffles and we all loved them and will be making them again. :tu Someone who is used to a more typical waffle might want a little more sweetener. I used cooked white beans.
I don't know about the waffle iron. I had terrible sticking problems with every recipe and everything I tried, with my last iron. I finally gave up and bought a new one, just an inexpensive one from Target. It has worked great for us. A couple of years ago we were gluten free for a short time, and I know we made waffles and pancakes with GF mixes. It could just be your iron. |

My husband runs the wafflemaker and pancakes at the same time.

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
It is in her cookbook, but here is a picture http://silvanaskitchen.com/2011/11/g...knight-dinner/ with the pork chops. I keep thinking about them but have yet to make them. We love hashbrowns in our house!

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
subbing b/c we had pancakes for dinner tonight and I often ask myself how I could shave some time off the process.
How do the bean/oat waffles taste?? I am so curious! |
Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
About what you'd expect - oats and beans mixed together. I didn't find them to be very tasty, actually. Lots of molasses and coconut oil helps. :shifty

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
would the bean/oat waffle batter make pancakes??? :think

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
I add LOTS of cinnamon and some vanilla and they smell great and my kids love them.

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
MIL used the waffle iron y'day and the food came out great. She used cooking spray. I think I'm waffle-impaired.

Re: There's got to be a better way to make pancakes
Coming back to this thread to say that I can finally make waffles. After trying 2 different thrift-store irons, tweaking my recipe (tried adding more oil to the batter and using gelatin as an egg replacer both helped), and even taking my set up to BlessedBlue's house for troubleshooting, I was able to make a mediocre waffle that sometimes came out of the pan.
I broke down and bought a new waffle iron on clearance. My waffles come out just fine now, with no special treatment. :shrug |
