Can someone share a french toast recipe?
I've been craving french toast like a mad woman lately... but I honestly have no idea how to make it. I remember my mom making it for me as a kid and she would basically beat and egg and dip white wonder bread in it- and that does NOT sound appetizing. :giggle
Any alternative ideas? |
Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
I mix egg and milk and dip my regular (ww) bread in it, then cook it like a pancake. You can throw some cinnamon in the batter, too.
Haven't tried it w/ homemade bread... :think |
Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
some of the better ones I've tried include egg, splash of milk, bit of cinnamon, a spoonful of brown sugar and another spoonful of flour. Then dip the bread (challah is good, so is a hearty french/italian loaf that is sliced up thick or even texas toast). Dip it for 30 seconds on each side and fry in butter.
Serve with jam, maple syrup or your favorite fruit, powdered sugar and butter. You can even make stuffed french toast (smear your favorite jam flavor between two slices then dip the 'sandwich' or cream cheese & fruit jam is good. Peanut butter and jelly or nutella mmmmm. |

Mash a ripe banana and cut with some milk and cinnamon and fry. But DS can't have egg ;)

Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
It's great with homemade wheat bread, you do want it to be at least 3 days old, though. Basically, mix up milk and egg (Ryan throws in some flavored coffee creamer) and cinnamon or nutmeg and vanilla. Dip and fry. Delicious!!

E loves french toast. She cracks her own egg, we add milk, salt, pepper & cinnamon. Then we put in our regular ww bread. It is yummy & healthy-ish.

Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
We do milk, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla and a little sugar. :yum

Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
Use LOTS of eggs. This not only makes it taste better but it won't stick to the pan nearly as much.
I really don't measure for FT but we use Ezekiel bread, about 6 eggs, milk, a dash of vanilla and nutmeg. Cook in coconut oil in a skillet or on a flat griddle. Serve w/ butter and real maple syrup. :yum Posted via Mobile Device ---------- Post added at 10:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:56 AM ---------- :lol just laughing about how old this thread is. I was looking for SonshineMama's soaked granola recipe. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
I do eggs, flour, vanilla, cinnamon, milk.
and on days when I'm feeling really "brunchy" I mix vanilla and cinnamon into cream cheese and put that in between two slices of french toast. :yum |

Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
I have not read any other replies yet, but this is what I do...
Egg, Milk (heavy cream is SOO GOOD instead!), cinnamon, vanilla. VOILA! Dip in your bread and cook! Cover in yummy pure maple syrup! (Sorry, I dont measure when I cook this. I just eyeball it.) ---------- Post added at 09:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 AM ---------- Remember that THICKER bread is better for french toast, and it soaks up more yummy flavor if its on the dry side. :) |
Re: Can someone share a french toast recipe?
we make one that I really like and it is in the oven so eaisier than on the stove
on a cookie sheet sprinkle sugar and cinnamon and orange zest crack eggs and add a little orange juice and mix cut french bread (a little dried out is best) into slices dip into egg mixture -coat both sides and put into pan cook in oven until they start to brown (um, maybe 10 min?) we eat it plain without syrup. |
