Itchy skin

Don't say coconut oil. Lol

The weather changed a week ago and my legs have gone suddenly so dry. I could itch my skin right off. I've tried all the oils, lotions, butter butters and even the prescription lotion for eczema (Dermol 500) and there is zero improvement. It all soaks in completely leaving my skin totally looking the same as before.

Its just my legs that are dry, the rest of me is fine.

(Also can't buy Burts Bees either).

I put a little bit of olive oil in my bath when my skin gets like that. It's the best thing that works - better than lotions and creams. Just be careful getting out of the tub if you try it. It will be a little slippery, lol.

Re: Itchy skin

When are you applying the lotion? When I dealt with eczema, this is the pattern that was most effective for relief:

1. Slather on lotion *before* going in the shower (this provided a barrier for my skin)
2. Immediately after the shower and toweling off, slather on more lotion (don't wait more than 1 minute after exiting the shower - I found my skin was far more receptive to the emollient effects if it was a bit damp vs. dry).

Doing both of these steps with my preferred lotion made a big difference in itch relief. If you continue to have issues, I'd ask about a topical steroid for a few days (sometimes that can help).

I haven't before a shower, I can start though!

I've been using lotion twice a day sometimes three times. I'm like a sponge, it just disappears.

Have you had your thyroid tested recently? Hypothyroid can be a major cause of very dry skin.

No, a couple years or four? ago. The itchiness seems to coincide completely with the weather turning cold though.

I'm combining both suggestions to see how that goes... cover my legs in oil before the shower.

has your thyroid been checked? the itchy skin (not all the time) was one of my first symptoms.

ETA I see you were asked and answered. Um... go get it checked ;) :heart
