I am totally disillusioned about "skillet cookies" ;)

I always thought you actually *cooked* them in the skillet, as in on the stove. But no, apparently, skillet chocolate chip cookies, so called, are actually baked in the oven :hunh:scratch. So what makes them so very much different than baking the equivalent recipe in any big pan? I mean, dh says that cast iron bakes quite a bit different than, say, pyrex or aluminum or whatnot - but is that really enough to justify all the praise? (And we don't *have* a cast iron skillet, and staring at the picture with the recipe is making my mouth water - I want to get on with the baking ;).)

:yum

Do you think it would work with a dutch oven? I don't have any oven-safe skillets, but I do have a dutch oven...

Don't know why not :shrug3 - but that's not exactly an informed opinion ;).

oh, I just re-read and that the cast iron is supposed to make the difference...my dutch oven isn't cast iron.

(I'm tempted to try it anyway. I can't stand baking cookies because it's so putzy...sticking it all in at once would certainly be an improvement on the process!)

Would it be mean to send DH out in the snow for chocolate chunks and ice cream? I think not.
