got the wrong jars

I ment to get the wide mouthed mason jars and instead grabbed a big box of the ones ment more for sauces.
Looking for some siggestions on what works well in these that doesn't require anything more than using hot water.
I bought them originally to contain premixed cookie recipes and not so much for canning. I've never done that before and dh threw out the directions that came with the jars.
Help!

What size did you get - I use every size for different things

QUarts (wide or narrow) I use for tomatoes, tomato sauce, salsa, saurkrat (saurkraut not canned ;) ), pickles, etc. i also use them for premade cookie mixes. I use them for storing dehydrated fruits (that I made or bought in bulk), nuts, trail mixes.

Pints - I use for spices (taco seasoning, chili seasoning), jelly, salsa,

I got the narrow quarts I guess. They're definately bigger than pints.

I tried to google yesterday and got discouraged about canning, it seems really time consuming and exact?to hard right now with a newborn and kids.
How did they do it back in the day?

Maybe ill try to use them for just filling with things that don't go bad. But I can't think of much considering their narrow?

I use narrow mouthed for things -- they worked fine :yes

In the old days they had "canning days" and the neighbors all pitched in together - even my grammas generation did it this way --- plenty of people to help with the "young'ins". WHen there weren't neighbors even dad got involved because without that food, they wouldn't make it through the winter :hugheart

I asked because I can and can't imagine how things got done - so much work :phew
