Useful Crochet Baby items
I want to make a baby gift. Blankets are an obvious choice but tbh, I hardly used my kid's crochet blankets. Too big, too hot, can't swaddle with them. My winter baby wore hats. These will be summer babies though (twins). We used a ton of soakers and longies but I don't think this Mom cloth diapers. Just curious what items you were gifted or made yourself that you actual used for your baby (or are using if you currently have a baby).

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I never used the blankets when my kids were babies, but they are heavily used now. On the chair, as forts, etc.
Hats that fit next winter would be okay with me. Stuffed animal? Christmas ornament size piece that reminds Mom of the nursery theme years after they are babies? |
Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I used my baby blankets as floor mats for when we were in dr offices and I could not hold the baby any longer.
Socks or mittens for newborns (using dk weight) Bibs for the later drooling. Burp cloths |
Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I have always wished that someone with crochet skills would make my babies a pair of these booties. :hearts They would be perfect for fall.

My mum crocheted the edge of a thick cotton sheet.
She also crocheted around some facewashers. I have seen her crochet the top of plain white socks for a little girl. I've seen other kids who have a crocheted lovey. With an animal head and then like granny square attached to it. Softies would also be a good idea. ---------- Post added at 04:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:44 PM ---------- https://www.allfreecrochet.com/Baby-...-Lovey-Blanket |

Wash cloth
Washing mitt If Mom is going to nurse, some nursing pads made out of soft cotton. |
Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I like the little square lovies with an animal head :yes Ravelry also has a pattern for a little gripping toy that looks like a flower or a sunshine kind of thing.
Stuff to grow into for the winter is also fine. You could crochet a car seat size blanket with a light cotton yarn. I found a lovely cotton acrylic blend that was so soft and perfect for summer stuff. Crocheted sunhat in cotton? |

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I would definitely want 100% cotton crocheted toys. Blankets and booties are easy to buy, but quality toys that are natural materials are harder to come by.
Something like this http://herbsthandmade.blogspot.com/2...rial-loop.html https://en.dawanda.com/product/10002...ing-rattle-sun https://www.etsy.com/listing/2710705...-shop-header-0 http://www.1dogwoof.com/hedgehog-tag...ochet-pattern/ Something multi-faceted that could be grabbed in different ways- like the taggie hedgehog or a bunny with long ears that could be chewed, etc. I like the ones based on a wooden ring a lot! |

I love the idea of crocheted toys! Something that even a very mainstream mom would love and use. Same thing with booties. :yes

Any idea where people get the wooden rings for the toys?

Is there a reason you would like cotton over wool specifically? I can get decent quality wool a lot less expensively than cotton is why I ask. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
oooh good question. I assumed she meant cotton over acrylics/acrylic blends.
|
Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
I would prefer cotton over wool due to the washing care. With teething babies, they would need to be frequently thrown in the washer and dryer.

Re: Useful Crochet Baby items
Hmmm I don't think a wooden ring can go in the dryer. Not sure about the washer - maybe.
