Have any of you moms sucessfully made homemade vegan ice cream or block cheeses?They are too expensive tto buy regularly for a large family.If you have made these,could you share recipes and tips?Do you have to have an ice cream maker for the ice cream?Thanks for your help! :grouphug

I don't have an ice cream maker but I may be able to borrow my SIL's. I really want to try the peach one. The fudgesicle one sounds really good too. And the raspberry one, OK they all do. :giggle

The ice cream sounds yummy.I cant wait to try it.Yesterday I made the chedder block cheese using the recipe from the uncheese cookbook and it turned out great !it even melted!

If you want a quick treat, I've heard that frozen bananas in a blender taste and feel like banana ice cream :)

I've made sorbet (vegan) but we have an ice cream maker.

This thread inspired me and I made strawberry-banana vegan ice cream in my food processor today! :tu I can't believe how good it was! :yum I added a little fresh avacado for some fat (you couldn't taste it at all) and a spoonful of apple juice concentrate to make it a tiny bit sweeter. :rockon SUPER! :highfive :mrgreen

ETA: I used the recipe from the link posted above, but omitted the nuts since ds is allergic, and I used Vance's for the milk substitute. :)

The other night I made pizza using a block cheese recipe from the uncheese cookbook.It was the first time I didnt have complaints about the cheese! :tu

Gee Gee which recipe? Have you tried the broccolli rice caserole? I added some curry powder and it's really, really yummy. Plus, it's so easy.

I made us a coconut banana rice milk shake yesterday, Im going to try freezing it next time, maybe it will come out like the banana ice cream. :D

Yes, just get cheese less pizza. It's really good.

I've used a white sauce before on pizza and lasagna. I don't see why you couldn't do that with rice milk. I've just never tried it. There are some nut based uncheeses, too.

I think she has some hard cheeses as well as sauces. The book is actually, "The Uncheese Cookbook" and it's by Joanne Stepaniak. You can google her, as well.

You might want to check through the recipes for other "cheeses". None of these taste just like cheese, but if you are willing you can change your tastebuds :giggle Little animals will thank you.
