Natural calm. . .magnesium -- hurts stomach?

My dd has tons of tummy issues - we believe related to leaky gut. Natural calm (magnesium) has been very helpful in getting her to have regular BM's but now she's getting a tummy ache :-/ just right when she takes it (at night). In the morning she wakes up fine. . . I wonder if she just gets a little bloated from it. Because when I took it, I got burpy and bloated so I never took it again. Since I wanted to try it for the calming affect, I just stopped taking it.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there a solution -- like maybe going to pill form of magnesium? Or should I not worry since it's just RIGHT when she takes it

Hubby refuses. I'll take it if I have a neck spasm.

Instead of Natural Calm, I usually take his Cal/Mag. It has less magnesium per dose, and also has calcium.
With magnesium being a muscle relaxer, it makes sense there's be tummy issues. Have you tried reducing the amount for a little while?

yes, I couldn't stomach it. I just take cal/mag in pill form even though I have to swallow so many pills.

Interesting.....I never had any tummy problems when I took it, but I also never took it regularly really, just in spurts (when I remembered, LOL).

I've never had any problems. It worked wonders for the braxton hicks that took my breath away and woke me at night. I still take it and haven't had problems. My kids haven't either.

We get a lot of dietary calcium, maybe that's why?

Does she take it w/ meals or on an empty stomach?

Yeah, it turns us into "insta-gurgle" in the belly. :(

Can you just do 1/2?

At first it wasn't bothering her at all :shrug3 As soon as her bm's got considerably softer, I backed off to a 1/2 dose. On that 1/2 dose is when her tummy started hurting. I definitely know what she means because I feel exactly how zak described . . . that insta gurgle!

Right now, we are doing none and I have started clay at night for her after hearing people talk about clay healing leaky gut :pray4

It's always like a merry go round with her tummy :doh

That's odd that it didn't hurt at first but now it does. I think it's good that you stopped -good to listen to her body - hope she feels better soon

So I read the container better today and I haven't been using hot water. . . was doing the cold water method. Tried the hot water method today and it didn't work. . . tummy pain :doh

Ah, well. She's okay or will be by tomorrow :shifty . . . it's just a roller coaster as always. Seems everything we try to help her with leaky gut ends up hurting -- sometimes within a few days, weeks, or a month :shrug3

Forgive me if I missed it... Have you tried the gluten-free, dairy(casein)-free diet? And have you tried probiotics and enzymes?

That's okay - I am VERY active in the allergy forum as she has been diagnosed with 20+ food allergies which we believe to be leaky gut related.

Yes, we are gluten/dairy free and 20 other things free :eyeroll. We tried doing the SCD diet and made it 6 days :hiding . But we try to eat low grain and easy on the tummy meals. She takes probiotics at least 2 times a day and enzymes before most meals - we forget on the enzymes sometimes but not often. We do other stuff too :sigh

Re: Natural calm. . .magnesium -- hurts stomach?

Ack. I really can't tolerate magnesium in any form or amount due to the dysbiosis of my gut. Which is rough because I need calcium, my ones are in terrible shape.

The homeopath gives me 9 kinds of calcium in my usual remedy which has been backordered for about a month.

C reacts to something in Natural Calm so we use ionic fizz which I know is not an option for her.

Doesn't this all get old :hiding :sigh
Thankfully, it's not hurting her terribly. . . but still. . . can't anything ever work :doh

Sorry just had to vent for a sec :shifty
