i think i'm a veg

hi my name is jessie and i think i'm a veg...lol vegetarian that is. maybe one day i'll have the desire to go vegan...but for right now my main motivation is that the smell of meat makes my stomach turn. it has ever since i was pregnant with ds, but wednesday night was the last straw. we had dinner at church, i went so far as to put a serving of "the stuff" on my plate and i wanted to barf, i offered it to the girl across from me and she laughed and asked what was wrong. and so i had asparagus for my main dish.

i had a burger the next night. and like, a nibble of a chicken nugget.

so its not like i'm being a vegetarian because my morals dont allow for eating the stuff...i just really think its gross.

so idk what to do. i mean i dont mind eating it every once and a while, if we are out somewhere. i'm not trying to change or anything. i just dont like being repulsed by my dinner.

so my main issue is this - how do i get the proteins i need without having to choke down something that makes me want to barf? i know its possible, i am just ignorant as to how. i was raised on mcnuggets and hamburger helper so just learning how to eat more fresh, less processed foods has been a journey for me. i have been too scared to go meatless until today. i can't take it anymore. just the word meat seriously makes me nauseous.

i am not too turned off by fish though. is that normal? i guess because the texture is completely different? :)

Hi :)
Protein is easy to get-amino acids are in practically everything. I'd go so far as to say, if you're happy eating eggs and dairy, I think you'd be pretty hard pressed not to get enough if you kwim
There is a good table in this link:

protein deficiency is called kwashiorkor...ever heard of that? probably not, so obviously protein deficiency isn't your main concern!;) But I do know what you mean. I have eaten kosher for sometime now and have had an on again - off again relationship with dairy. Dairy clogs me up, I get all phlegmy and mucusol so I have tried in the past to elimate it with out great success. But recently I read that dairy has long been associated with acne, which I could very well be a spokesperson for the Got Milk, Got Acne campaign! So I am again forgoing all animal dairy and see what happens... in one week I have had NO outbreaks!:think

But like you I am not all for 'saving the baby animals'...however, I am big on saving baby humans!!! I recently read The Kind Diet and she explains that by 'harvesting' all these animals for human consumption we are using millions of acreage to house the animals and grow food for the animals, we are using millions of gallons of fresh water to harvest these animals and the waste, ie. poo these animals are creating on a daily basis is in the millions too! It just isn't sustainable while millions of people around the world are starving for grain we are feeding it to cows or when people need fresh water the cows are drinking it...so we can eat them! I don't know, but I am trying to find a little vegan corner for me to fit in, one that doesn't recreate all of the traditional american dishes with tofu and beans! I really am not interested in Tofurky for thanksgiving...I need to relearn some basic skills that do not include trying to recreate standard american fare without meat... I'd really like to comsume lots more raw food while including the teachings of macrobiotics...we'll see how it goes!

Good luck to you!:heart

Welcome to this part of the board. We have a sticky if you go back to the main Veg board. It has a lot of good links about protein. Will you give them a read. I think you will be surprised. Feel free to pm if you need to.
