If you live in Wyoming...

...could you tell me a little bit about it? :)

The hubby and I are considering a move, and Wyoming is a beautiful state that we're interested in. Please share your impressions about:

homeschooling
vax/non-vax
finding Christian communities
dangerous or annoying pest insects/animals
holistic health (how hard is it to find a naturopath and mercury-free dentist?)
cultural differences between different areas of the state
what the winters are like
what summers are like
anything else a prospective resident would want to know!

Thank you :heart

I don't live in Wyoming, but live somewhere near :shifty I can answer some of your questions. Not sure on their homeschooling/vax laws, or Christian community. Although, I can tell you chances are they will lean more conservative than liberal. As far as dangerous critters, they would include rattlesnakes, mountain lions, bears, and black widow spiders. I do know that there is a holistic dentist in Gillette, I believe. Otherwise, depending on where you live in Wyoming, it may be a short drive to Colorado where there would be way more options near the Denver area. Winters can be nasty, but it depends on where you are in Wyoming, and it can vary from year to year. That state can and does get quite a bit of snow. Summers are generally on the hotter side, at least on the east side of the state where it is less mountainous. Also, there have been quite a few tornadoes in Wyoming over the last year or two, but that is more unusual than normal.

Wind

The end. I couldn’t live there.

I’ve driven through there several times. You could also drive to SLC for holistic health care if you were on the western edge.

They have big things near the freeway to catch snow so it doesn’t make dangerous drifts. So yes wind, and snow.

One thing about the west in general is mining communities are generally not as awesome to live in as other places. Lots of social problems.

Re: If you live in Wyoming...

Do you have a general area of the state in mind? I also live near but not in Wyoming (but I can get to Wyoming in about an hour). Summers in general are beautiful, winters...are not. I pretty frequently get alerts about portions of the interstate being closed in Wyoming during the winter due to another storm (and likely wind making things worse). It's not at all uncommon for those in Wyoming to have to do some driving for major shopping or even some medical options, depending on the area. My city gets tons of Wyoming residents here every weekend because we are the nearest Costco for a lot of them. :giggle It's fine traveling during the nice months, not something I'd love otherwise. Most of the state is pretty conservative, so chances are that homeschooling/vax laws are pretty decent and reflect that (though I'm just assuming here -- our state is similar). I don't think you'd be hurting for fellow Christians in the area.

All of that said, Wyoming puts you in a fantastic location for easy drives to so many absolutely beautiful areas. It wouldn't be my top pick to live in, but I can see why so many love it and I visit pretty frequently. I find the City-data forums to have a lot of helpful information, in case you haven't looked through there.

Thanks! We love the mountains <3 We're conservative-type homeschooler folks. It would be ideal to find a Messianic church, but I'm not holding my breath on that one :giggle

Which of the nearby states do you guys think we would like?

Western Slope of Colorado

You'd also love western Montana (not great for homeschooling laws, IIRC) and northern Idaho. I know of one Messianic congregation in northern Idaho. There might be more but I know of one. I also know of another one right on the Washington-Idaho border, near Spokane Valley.

Wyoming isn't green enough for me but it does have a wild beauty. I bet Jackson Hole is a great community. I love ski towns that aren't too big or filled with too many million-dollar vacation homes.

There are Messianic congregations in Spokane and northern Idaho?! I have family over there; I'll have to visit those churches sometime ;) Do you know anything about the cost of living in northern Idaho? I think it's gone up quite a bit in recent years :think

Real estate is sky high right now. Our house has gone up 60% since we bought it 5 years ago. And that's from an official BPO, not a Zestimate or anything. (Although the Zestimate was accurate, I was surprised.) But, it will come down. It always does. It has to!

Let's hope so! The laws in Idaho on subjects that matter to us are favorable, and the scenery in the panhandle is beautiful. :rockon
