Who is vegan or vegetarian?

Who is still vegan or vegetarian? :)

I'm still vegan. Getting more vegan by the year. :giggle It's 16 years now. :tu

How are you all doing? Any special veggie plans for Thanksgiving? My mom is making her usual homemade "tofurkey" (out of tofu ;)). :rockon

I am an aspiring vegan! Slowly transitioning. I have been still eating eggs lately. When I was pregnant several months ago I think I ate the last hamburgers I was going to. ; )

Becoming lactose intolerant was a blessing in disguise. There are lots of good reasons, health, environment and avoiding animal cruelty. The older I get I am finding myself and courage to live up to convictions.

Nice to know others.

Re: Who is vegan or vegetarian?

Almost 17 years a vegetarian (with exception of a brief red meat eating craze during DS2's pregnancy and the occasional salmon when we are in a Western country). For a while we were almost vegan, DS2 was allergic to eggs and lactose intolerant. These days DS2 has also given up meat (he's stricter than me and was mortified when I had a little salmon during our visit home this summer).

Our veg Thanksgiving staple is GF soya and vegetable cobbler along with all the usual sides (this year roasted root veggies, garlic mashed potatoes, random sauteed vegetables, local fruit cranberry sauce substitute and carrot souffle to stand in for the yams which had a short season this year and are no where to be found).

Re: Who is vegan or vegetarian?

I am here (not going to categorize myself vegan or vegetarian atm [not going to pick between the two] but I belong in that general category). Actually, I'm taking an animal-derived supplement right now (not even vegetarian) but I really, really need it. So maybe I don't belong. :shifty :bag But I don't eat meat.

I love Thanksgiving food! I just eat all the sides- love me some mashed potatoes, vegetarian stuffing, coconut milk pumpkin pie, and I also just found out Marie Callendar's apple pie is vegan. I have some almond dream ice cream to put on my pie, too.

We bought Thanksgiving from Whole Foods this year because of my mom's cancer, and got the vegan meal as well (though the regular meal had several vegan options). The cake was awful. But the rest was okay to good to very good, depending on the dish.

I'm so sorry about your mom's cancer. :( :pray4 That's good to hear the review of how their meals was. Bummer about the cake. What type was it? My mom bought me a vegan muffin from Whole Foods the other day while we were shopping for Thanksgiving, and it was so good! I think it was some type of carrot muffin, maybe? It looked like it had grated carrots in it.

Can you share your recipe for pumpkin pie filling? Mine was OK but it didn't gel as well as I'd like.

I used this one but added more sugar and didn't use a crust since I don't like crust anyway.

It was some sort of toffee spice cake or something. The cake was totally dry. The frosting was waaaaaaaayyyyyy too sweet.

Chickadee is anaphylactic to egg and dairy. So we do lots of vegan baking!
